Lexicography in the Borderland between Knowledge and Non-Knowledge
The book contains a state-of-the-art summary of the theoretical discussions within the field of lexicography during the last decades. On this basis it presents and argues for a new general theory, called the function theory. It goes on to develop this theory in one single field, i.e. learners lexicography where it both formulates the basic elements of a general theory for learners’ dictionaries as well as a number of specific theories for special subfields such as selection, meaning, semantic relations, morphology, syntactic properties and word combinations. It contains a big number of examples extracted from existing dictionaries which are discussed from the point of view of the theories formulated.

Bibliographie Linguistique/ Linguistic Bibliography is the annual bibliography of linguistics published by the Permanent International Committee of Linguists under the auspices of the International Council of Philosophy and Humanistic Studies of UNESCO. With a tradition of more than fifty years (the first two volumes, covering the years 1939-1947, were published in 1949-1950), Bibliographie Linguistique is by far the most comprehensive bibliography in the field. The Making of Bad Language
This book is a contribution to the history of non-standard or bad German. The origin and development of standard German was a complex process and many factors were involved in the selection, non-selection and de-selection of variants, as well as the initial promotion of certain varieties of German to supraregional status. The interest here is in non-selection and de-selection of variants and so the study focuses especially on questions such as: Why were certain constructions ignored in the formation of standard German grammar and why were others explicitly judged ill-suited for inclusion in the prestige variety? Who was responsible for these stigmatisations and what reasons were given? And finally, how was the knowledge that one shouldn't use particular constructions transmitted to the language users? At the heart of this study are case studies of 11 morphosyntactic features of bad German as found in a selection of texts produced by norm makers, from 1600 to 2005, all of them salient Zweifelsfälle of modern German.

Aktuelle Studien belegen, dass das Niederdeutsche immer weniger gesprochen wird. Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht, diesen Sprachgebrauchswandel aus einem dreipoligen Bedingungsgefüge zu analysieren: aus den SprecherInnen selbst, der Politik, die mit sprachpolitischen Maßnahmen diesen Rückgang stoppen will, und den Medien, die in ihren veröffentlichten Auffassungen vom Niederdeutschen den Umgang mit dieser Sprache steuert. Die Arbeit konzentriert sich dazu auf Spracheinstellungen, da diese das Sprachverhalten maßgeblich lenken. Nach einem ausführlichen historischen Überblick werden die aktuellen Spracheinstellungen mittels diskursanalytischer Methoden beschrieben, die einen gegenstandsadäquaten - kontextsensitiven - Umgang ermöglichen. Als verblüffendes und höchst problematisches Ergebnis kristallisiert sich heraus, dass sowohl die SprecherInnen selbst als auch die Politik den gewünschten Spracherhalt teilweise verhindern.
