Enhancing the quality of children's lives remains a national and international priority. Improving early childhood education was, is and continues to be an important subject in institutions of higher education. This publication presents 32 diverse contributions. Since 1983, more than 639,000 articles from more than 29,500 festschrifts, published between 1977 and 2010, have been catalogued.
Dilemmas of the Modern Educational Discourse
This book discusses the dilemmas of modern education, with the first section presenting the whole of the system of higher education in its diversity and discussing selected aspects of higher education's functioning. The second section is devoted to considerations concerning a teacher and a student in the expanse of the modern school. Der Band bietet Einblicke in Gender-Analysen an der Universitat fur Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (mdw). Gefragt wird nach den Bedeutungen der Kategorie Geschlecht in der Musik, auf dem Theater und im Film. Die Beitrage thematisieren die Musikwissenschaft als Feld der Reproduktion des sozialen Geschlechts, geschlechtstypische Unterschiede zwischen Musiklehrern und Musiklehrerinnen, Gender-Aspekte in der Ethnomusikologie, Feminismus und Popkultur, die 'Gute' der Frauen in Gender-Pirouetten, das Verhaltnis von Cultural Studies und Gender Studies und nicht-normative Mannlichkeit im Film.

Labour History in the Semi-periphery
This collective volume aims at studying a variety of labour history themes in Southern Europe, and investigating the transformations of labour and labour relations that these areas underwent in the 19th and the 20th centuries. The subjects studied include industrial labour relations in Southern Europe; labour on the sea and in the shipyards of the Mediterranean; small enterprises and small land ownership in relation to labour; formal and informal labour; the tendency towards independent work and the role of culture; forms of labour management (from paternalistic policies to the provision of welfare capitalism); the importance of the institutional framework and the wider political context; and women’s labour and gender relations.
