This book reviews the primary aspects of wastewater treatment processing techniques and designs, as well as water quality assessment. Chapters address microwave digestive techniques of wastewater treatment, advanced ozone oxidative and photo processes, and reactive distillation for various applications. The book is a useful resource for choosing applicable processing techniques and design parameters.
Process Safety Calculations, Second Edition remains to be an essential guide for students and practitioners in process safety engineering who are working on calculating and predicting risks and consequences. The book focuses on calculation procedures based on basic chemistry, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, conservation equations, kinetics and practical models. It provides helpful calculations to demonstrate compliance with regulations and standards, such as Seveso directive(s)/COMAH, CLP regulation, ATEX directives, PED directives, REACH regulation, OSHA/NIOSH and UK ALARP, along with risk and consequence assessment, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, stress analysis and fluid-dynamics. The book aims to face the challenge of post-COVID-19 dynamics toward green and digital transition, between metropolitan and return to villages’ perspectives. It presents a multi-disciplinary scientific debate on the new frontiers of strategic and spatial planning, economic programs and decision support tools, within the urban–rural areas networks and the metropolitan cities. The book focuses on six topics: inner and marginalized areas local development to re-balance territorial inequalities; knowledge and innovation ecosystem for urban regeneration and resilience; metropolitan cities and territorial dynamics; rules, governance, economy, society; green buildings, post-carbon city and ecosystem services; infrastructures and spatial information systems; cultural heritage: conservation, enhancement and management. In addition, the book hosts a Special Section: Rhegion United Nations 2020-2030. The book will benefit all researchers, practitioners and policymakers interested in the issues applied to metropolitan cities and marginal areas.
The five volume set LNCS 10960 until 10964 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2018, held in Melbourne, Australia, in July 2018. Apart from the general tracks, ICCSA 2018 also includes 34 international workshops in various areas of computational sciences, ranging from computational science technologies, to specific areas of computational sciences, such as computer graphics and virtual reality. The total of 265 full papers and 10 short papers presented in the 5-volume proceedings set of ICCSA 2018, were carefully reviewed and selected from 892 submissions. The paper Nitrogen Gas on Graphene: Pairwise Interaction Potentials is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.
Enabling the Business of Agriculture 2019 presents indicators that measure the laws, regulations and bureaucratic processes that affect farmers in 101 countries. The study covers eight thematic areas: supplying seed, registering fertilizer, securing water, registering machinery, sustaining livestock, protecting plant health, trading food and accessing finance. The report highlights global best performers and countries that made the most significant regulatory improvements in support of farmers.
Enabling the Business of Agriculture 2017, the third report in the series, offers insights into howlaws and regulations affect private sector development for agribusinesses, including producerorganizations and other agricultural entrepreneurs. Globally comparable data and scored indicatorsencourage regulations that ensure the safety and quality of agricultural inputs, goods and servicesbut are not too costly or burdensome. The goal is to facilitate the operation of agribusinesses andallow them to thrive in a socially and environmentally responsible way, enabling them to provideessential agricultural inputs and services to farmers that could increase their productivity andprofits. Regional, income-group and country-specific trends and data observations are presentedfor 62 countries and across 12 topics: seed, fertilizer, machinery, finance, markets, transport, water,ICT, land, livestock, environmental sustainability and gender. Data are current as of June 30, 2016.For more information, please see http://eba.worldbank.org
Using a wide variety of sources, John Boswell examines the evidence that parents of all classes gave up unwanted children, "exposing" them in public places, donating them to the church, or delivering them in later centuries to foundling hospitals. He shows what happened to these children, and he illuminates the moral codes that condoned abandonment.
