Current Topics in Astrofundamental Physics: The Cosmic Microwave Background

This NATO Advanced Study Institute provided an up dated understanding, from a fundamental and deep point of view, of the progress and current problems in the early universe, cosmic microwave background radiation, large scale structure, dark matter problem, and the interplay between them. The focus was placed on the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. Emphasis was given to the mutual impact of fundamental physics and cosmology, both at theoretical and experimental-or observational-levels, within a deep and well defined programme, and a global unifying view, which, in addition, provides of careful inter-disciplinarity. Special Lectures were devoted to neutrinos in astrophysics and high ener...

Cool evolved stars are among the brightest point sources in the infrared sky, and contribute significantly to the interstellar dust of galaxies. They are in a short-lived but important stage of stellar evolution, characterized by pulsations, dust formation, and the production of expanding circumstellar shells. This conference highlighted the physics of evolved cool stars in relation to their stage of evolution, atmospheric structure and dynamics, stellar winds, and associated dust formation. The conference was held at the Millennium Centre near the campus of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, in July 2007. It brought together astronomers, both professional and amateu...

Relativistic Astrophysics

All papers have been peer-reviewed. This is conference for physicists, in particular from China and Italy, to present their most recent research works on both theoretical and observational aspects of Relativistic Astrophysics. The conference topics cover the following research fields: gamma-ray bursts; galactic dynamic and survey; dark matter; dark energy and high red-shift universe; black holes; neutron stars and supernovae; general relativity; classical and quantum gravity, and field theory.

Au verso de la couverture : "The international Hinode mission was launched from Japan on 23 September 2006. The spacecraft carries a suite of instruments that permit observations of the Sun and its atmosphere with unprecedented resolution and precision. During its first two years of operation, Hinode has enabled numerous breakthroughs in our understanding of magnetic fields within the solar atmosphere and their relationship to the energetic solar phenomena that affect the Earth's space environment. Some of those breakthroughs were presented at the First Hinode Science Meeting held in Dublin, Ireland, in August 2007 (ASPCS Volume 397). By the time the Second Hinode Science Meeting was held in Boulder, Colorado, 29 September-3 October 2008, researchers had been able to subject Hinode data to in-depth, quantitative analyses and to make comparisons with detailed numerical and analytic models of solar phenomena. This volume presents brief summaries of work presented at the Second Hinode Science Meeting"

These are the proceedings of "Cosmology Across Cultures: An International Conference on the Impact of the Study of the Universe in Human Thinking" organized by the Spanish Institutes of Astrophysics of the Canaries and Andalucía under the patronage of the European Society for Astronomy in Culture (SEAC). The conference hosted in the multicultural historical city of Granada more than 80 participants from all the continents. This conference joined specialists of cultural astronomy studies and modern cosmology in a single forum where ideas about the comprehension of the Universe across time, space, and cultures were interchanged, analyzed, revised, and challenged. An experiment, excellently re...
