Applied Macroeconometrics
The objective of this book is the discussion and the practical illustration of techniques used in applied macroeconometrics. There are currently three competing approaches: the LSE (London School of Economics) approach, the VAR approach, and the intertemporal optimization/Real Business Cycle approach. This book discusses and illustrates the empirical research strategy of these three alternative approaches, pairing them with extensive discussions and replications of the relevant empirical work. Common benchmarks are used to evaluate the alternative approaches.
Ezio Tarantelli - Economic Theory and Industrial Relations
The present book analyses the work of Ezio Tarantelli, a remarkable Italian scientist and economist killed by the Red Brigades in 1985 after only a short life (1941-1985). Tarantelli’s work and its implications are not only of importance for Italian researchers, but also represents a contribution of interest to economists worldwide. The first chapter of this volume shows the most important features of the European and Italian economy from 1970 to 1985. The contribution of Tarantelli, in fact, was his attempt to address the questions arising from such a context, incorporating the thought of F. Modigliani and J. Robinson in the process. After some brief biographical notes in the second chapter, the third and the fourth concentrate on Tarantelli’s theoretical contribution. The fifth chapter and the conclusions, finally, show how, from his economic analysis, he derived some economic policy proposals that still hold relevance today. The text includes a complete bibliography of his scientific writings.

Inventory, Business Cycles and Monetary Transmission
Inventory changes constitute in all countries a small fraction of the Gross National Product but also a major source or an indicator of cyclical fluctuations. In this volume both possible ways of propagation are investigated by examining in the first part what macroeconomists have learned and still have to learn about inventories in the light of statistical definitions and problems. In the second part, the role of monetary shocks in propagating business cycles is considered through liquidity effects and in relation to inventory adjustment. A possible linkage between inventory and labor market is shown. Finally, new evidence and theoretical insights are provided on the linear-quadratic inventory model and its ability to discriminate econometrically among competing firm behavior.
