"Directed since its inception in 1978 by Val Bourne, the Dance Umbrella festival has long been an integral part in the development of British dance, and has become a major landmark on the international circuit." "This history charts the festival's fortunes over two decades, highlighting not only the programming and performances, but also the regional and touring projects, the adminstrative and marketing schemes, and the initiatives related to music, film and design. With illustrations by celebrated dance photographers, the book also includes detailed information on the programmes, management and staff of the festival." "This book will prove essential reading for anyone interested in the current dance scene - for the story of Dance Umbrella not only reflects the changing world of dance, but shows the festival as an active player in creating that history."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
