AIDS, Drugs and Prevention brings together a range of international contributions on the research, theory and practice of developing community-based HIV prevention. It aims to understand how individual actions to prevent HIV transmission are constrained and encouraged by situational and social context. Drawing on ethnographic and epidemiological research among populations of drug users, sex workers and gay men, it explores how future HIV prevention interventions can target changes at the level of the individual as well as at the level of the community and wider social environment. AIDS, Drugs and Prevention offers practical and theoretical insights into community-based health work in the time of AIDS. It provides invaluable reading for students, lecturers, researchers and practioners in health promotion, health policy, social work and medical sociology.

The United States and International Drug Control, 1909-1997 charts the US quest to internationalize the doctrine of drug prohibition. The study reveals the origins, motivation and methodologies as well as the recurring contradictions and inconsistencies present within the US overseas fight against the production, manufacture, trafficking and use of certain psychoactive substances. Drawing on extensive historical materials, David Bewley-Taylor uses the international career of America's first Drug Czar, Harry J. Anslinger, to explore how the US successfully exploited hegemonic superiority in 1945 to influence the philosophy of the multilateral drug control system operated by the United Nations...

With this edition, access to the texts of the famous Traité de Zoologie is now available to a worldwide readership. Parts 1, 2, and 3A of volume VII, i.e., the Crustacea, were published in French in, respectively, 1994, 1996, and 1999. Brill recognized the importance of these books and arranged for a translation to be made. However, some of the manuscripts dated from the early 1980s and it was clear from the beginning that in many fields of biology a mere translation of the existing text would not suffice. Thus, all chapters have been carefully reviewed, either by the original authors or by newly attracted specialists, and adequate updates have been prepared accordingly. This third volume of The Crustacea, revised and updated from the Traité de Zoologie contains chapters on: - Neuroanatomy - Neurohormones - Embryology - Relative Growth and Allometry The volume concludes with a list of contributors, as well as with both taxonomic and subject indices.
