A Place to Know
To engage with the aesthetic is to watch yourself watching – and what you see cannot be reached, for all that exists is the reflection of the vision performed by you. The aesthetic experience offers insights into the consciousness that are both ancient and linked to creative inventions in present-day art culture. In A Place to Know, Margaretha Rossholm Lagerlöf interprets twelve recent artworks, from Sol LeWitt to Katharina Grosse. She sets out the unique claims and qualities which are inherent in seeing and understanding contemporary art. The book presents four analytical categories of artwork, charting the character of the aesthetic experience and the traditions that determine how we think about visual art. She peels back the layers of consciousness to lay bare the forgotten seams of experience, interwoven with artistic expression. The ancient thus arcs into a deepened awareness of avant-garde art.
The Perfect Medium
In the early days of photography, many believed and hoped that the camera would prove more efficient than the human eye in capturing the unseen. Spiritualists and animists of the nineteenth century seized on the new technology as a method of substantiating the existence of supernatural beings and happenings. This fascinating book assembles more than 250 photographic images from the Victorian era to the 1960s, each purporting to document an occult phenomenon: levitations, apparitions, transfigurations, ectoplasms, spectres, ghosts, and auras. Drawn from the archives of European and American occult societies and private and public collections, the photographs in many cases have never before been published. The Perfect Medium studies these rare and remarkable photographs through cultural, historical, and artistic lenses. More than mere curiosities, the images on film are important records of the cultural forces and technical methods that brought about their production. They document in unexpected ways a period when developing photographic technology merged with a popular obsession with the occult to create a new genre of haunting experimental photographs.

Here comes the sun

Among these is Rivane Neuenschwander's installation visualizing the passage of time with the help of water drops; Olafur Eliasson's model of a house based on how the sun's rays fall on the Swedish capital, which is a component in his installation "Stockholm Solar Lab"; Tobias Rehberger's "7 ends of the world", featuring 222 hand-blown glass lamps that correspond in real time to the light in various parts of the world; a film by Tacita Dean central to her work in which she tracks a solar eclipse, following the course of events before, during, and after; and a living eco-system in a fish pond by Avital Geva, whose concern is with nature and time"

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis (UC), and Crohn’s disease (CD) occur worldwide and are life-long chronic conditions. The symptoms, which include abdominal pain and frequent diarrhea, cause limitations in life. Corpus Linguistics 25 Years on
This volume offers a state-of-the-art picture of work undertaken in the field of computer-aided corpus linguistics.
