For over a century, the sands off Chatham, Cape Cod, held an explosive secret that could bring fame and fortune to those who knew it--until now. When friends Matt Gallagher, Tucker McKinney, and Annie Hopewell come to Chatham for one last summer together, they stumble upon an elusive clue to solving the mystery of a Confederate ship's lost cargo of gold. But just as they learn the value of their discovery, they become embroiled in a life-and-death struggle with professional felons, Carson Ridder and Buster Sykes--ruthless men who will stop at nothing to satisfy their greed. Hunted by Ridder and Sykes and wanted by the police, Matt, Tucker, and Annie embark on a race against time that takes them from the beaches of Chatham, to the secret passages of Harvard, and finally to the dunes of Monomoy Island--where they must solve the mystery or lose their lives.

Ambulatory Medicine

This guide began as a manual for family medicine residents. Over time it evolved into a fairly complete coverage of most of the outpatient issues seen in their training. In response to their urging, I set out on the journey to convert the manual into the manuscript for this book. The book is intended for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. It serves three purposes: (1) as a quick reference for primary care providers to use in the clinic when seeing patients, (2) as a textbook, and (3) as a study guide for Board examinations. It covers a great number of topics briefly to allow quick reading. To allow fast access, the chapters are arranged in alphabetical or...

Hepatitis

"The silent killer." That's how a headline in USA TODAY, the Nation's No. 1 Newspaper, described hepatitis. This life-threatening liver disease can go undetected for decades because it often causes no symptoms until serious liver damage has occurred. The good news is that new medications and research bring "hope, treatment, even cures." Millions of people around the world are diagnosed each year with viral hepatitis. In this book, you'll read case studies of people with various types of viral hepatitis and learn about the effects of this highly contagious yet preventable disease. You'll also find basic information about symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment to help you understand how to protect yourself, your friends, and your family from this serious disease.

Envisioning the Future of Health Professional Education

In April 2015, the Institute of Medicine convened a public workshop to explore recent shifts in the health and health care industry and their implications for health professional education (HPE) and workforce learning. This study serves as a follow-up to the 2009 Lancet Commission report on health professions education for the 21st century and seeks to expand the report's messages beyond medicine, nursing, and public health. Envisioning the Future of Health Professional Education discusses opportunities for new platforms of communication and learning, continuous education of the health workforce, opportunities for team-based care and other types of collaborations, and social accountability of the health professions. This study explores the implications that shifts in health, policy, and the health care industry could have on HPE and workforce learning, identifies learning platforms that could facilitate effective knowledge transfer with improved quality and efficiency, and discusses opportunities for building a global health workforce that understands the role of culture and health literacy in perceptions and approaches to health and disease.
