Auto Legends

The cars are presented chronologically in a succession of seductive photographs by Michel Zumbrunn, widely recognized as one of the best car photographers working today. The combination of general views, taken from a variety of angles, and numerous close-ups of exquisite detailing allows the reader to appreciate fully these masterpieces of the car designer's art. Each entry is accompanied by a vivid commentary by Robert Cubmerford, a car designer and renowned motoring journalist, who shares his astounding knowledge with the reader in order to highlight the history and essential design features of each vehicle. An illuminating introduction traces the development of styling trends and influences, while brief biographies of the most innovative designers from the last one hundred years and a full technical glossary are also included. The book concludes with a directory of museums and public collections around the world where examples of the featured cars may be seen.

Author Steve Magnante is well known for his encyclopedia-like knowledge of automotive facts. The details he regularly shares, both in the pages of national magazines and as a contributing host and tech expert at the popular Barrett-Jackson Auctions on television, are the kinds of details that car fanatics love to hear. Many feel that these facts are among the highlights of television auction coverage, much more interesting than the final hammer price. Steve turns his attention to the most popular car in history, the Ford Mustang. In more than 50 years, the Mustang has taken many turns, from the original pony car, to variants that are best described as pure muscle cars, to the misunderstood M...

My hometown of Columbus, IN should be included in this book because of how unique it is. Without boring you with the complete history of a small town, there’s maybe no easier way than to include a description of Columbus that I wrote in 2018. This particular description was not an article for the magazine. I have a friend named Allen who has written a blog probably ever since blogging began. A couple of years ago because he was going on vacation and was aware that I was writing for a magazine, asked me to write his blog for him for ten days and to use articles I had written for the magazine. I was honored to be asked to do that and I selected ten of the articles you will be reading in this book. The first travel article, “Impressions of Iowa,” was dedicated to Allen’s wife, Lynn, who is an Iowa native. What follows was the introductory email to his bloggers to better explain where I come from. Since Columbus is as unique as it is, this was an enjoyable chore.
