Bad Men Do What Good Men Dream

Robert Simon's Bad Men Do What Good Men Dream: A Forensic Psychiatrist Illuminates the Darker Side of Human Behavior is that rare title that is both essential reading for the mental health professional and accessible in style and content to the fascinated lay reader. In twelve powerful and provocative chapters, the author introduces readers to a psychological perspective on evil, character and destiny, as well as the making of good men and women. Simon also illuminates the psychology of psychopaths, serial killers, rapists and all manner of evil characters who appall and challenge us by their very existence. He rejects the common belief that his subjects are "monsters" with nothing in common...

Paul Simon

Acclaimed music writer Robert Hilburn’s “epic” and “definitive” (Rolling Stone) biography of music icon Paul Simon, written with Simon’s full participation—but without his editorial control—that “reminds us how titanic this musician is” (The Washington Post). For more than fifty years, Paul Simon has spoken to us in songs about alienation, doubt, resilience, and empathy in ways that have established him as one of the most beloved artists in American pop music history. Songs like “The Sound of Silence,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Still Crazy After All These Years,” and “Graceland” have moved beyond the sales charts and into our cultural consciousness. B...

There is something difficult to address in the poems of Robert Simon's new collection, An Ode To Friendship. Perhaps, it is the purity contained in the flagrantly traditional and formal language that wraps itself from cover to cover. Some might find fault with such a jarring approach, given the 21st Century we find ourselves gasping through of late. I am of the other opinion. When reading Simon's work, I become lost in what one must assume to have been a painfully liquid transition, through a seamless and unspecified period of time. These are poems where technique meets soul; where that very same soul is in a constant struggle with its brother, intellect. Robert Simon sneaks up on us with this, and the result becomes a deliciously subtle agony, recognizing how tears and tears can intersect, causing delight in the midst of despair. -Sam Pereira
