Art, Biology, and Conservation
Despite the perception that artworks are timeless and unchanging, they are actually subject to biological attack from a variety of sources--from bacteria to fungi to insects. Conservation of the Exterior of the National Museum of the American Indian Building
The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian building on Washington, DC's, National Mall has a significant problem with dark staining on its facade. This volume brings together papers from studies undertaken by the Smithsonian's Museum Conservation Institute to understand the staining problem, suggest procedures for the 2011 cleaning intervention, and propose test studies for the development of a maintenance plan for the building.

Pesticide Mitigation in Museum Collections
The Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute Workshop on Pesticide Mitigation was one of the first professional meetings dedicated to current research on removing pesticide residues from museum objects.
