Text, Image, and Otherness in Children's Bibles
Children’s Bibles are often the first encounter people have with the Bible, shaping their perceptions of its stories and characters at an early age. The material under discussion in this book not only includes traditional children’s Bibles but also more recent phenomena such as manga Bibles and animated films for children. The book highlights the complex and even tense relationship between text and image in these Bibles, which is discussed from different angles in the essays. History and Mission in Europe

Thumb Bibles
The literary genre of “thumb bibles” belongs to the category of miniature books and is a subtype of children's bibles. Thumb bibles summarize the full bible by paraphrasing selected biblical narratives. Adhering to the Reformation principle of sola scriptura, their aim is to teach children and youth the biblical basics. For this purpose, many of them are illustrated. Popular with collectors, thumb bibles have largely been ignored by researchers. This publication is the first academic study of thumb bibles. For the first time in their centuries-long history, it explores their genesis in Britain, investigates their subsequent development in Germany, and presents their climax in America. What emerges is the theological, literary, pedagogical and pious profile of a fascinating genre. Das »Neue Gemeindepädagogische Kompendium« geht im ersten Teil auf »Gemeindepädagogische Grundlagen« und im zweiten Teil auf »Gemeindepädagogische Handlungsfelder« ein. Zu den klassischen Handlungsfeldern sind die kirchliche Arbeit mit Kleinkindern hinzugekommen, ebenso die Christenlehre, der Kirchentag, die Studierendengemeinde, Evangelische Schulen, Kirchenpädagogik, diakonisch-soziales Lernen und der Lernort Internet. Es handelt sich also in der Tat um ein »neues« Kompendium: Der Band zieht Bilanz, gleichzeitig bietet er Perspektiven für die zukünftige Entwicklung.Das »Gemeindepädagogische Kompendium« ist erstmals 1987 erschienen. Das Konzept korrespondiert mit dem »Religionspädagogischen Kompendium«, denn evangelische Bildungsverantwortung ist nur im konstruktiven Miteinander der unterschiedlichen Lernorte sinnvoll wahrnehmbar. Nach über zwanzig Jahren erscheint nun diese Neubearbeitung.
