Major limb amputation affects a large number of people worldwide, with estimates in the United States as high as 2 million. One of the most common conditions following limb amputation is phantom limb sensation. The majority of patients who have undergone traumatic limb loss also experience phantom limb pain (PLP). There is no consensus on potential differences in the frequency or severity of phantom pain between men and women. John Purcell (ca. 1777-1825) moved from North Carolina to Georgia by 1804 and was ". . . a charter member of Beards Creek Church, Tattnall County (then Liberty County), Glenville, Georgia . . .". He died in the Ogeechee district of Georgia.
Thomas O'Kelley, a Protestant, immigrated from Ireland to Virginia, where he had six sons born between 1750 and 1761. Includes descendants of four of these six sons. Descendants lived in Virginia, Georgia, Florida, the midwest and elsewhere.
