"Mikey and Lurch are worlds apart, even if they're from the same Mexican neighborhood in West Los Angeles. Mikey just graduated from UCLA and is determined to get out. Lurch, the leader of the Culver City gang, loves the hood-its projects, beat-up apartments and crackheads-more than his own life. They hook up with a doctor, who is from the same area. He put himself through medical school selling dope and now is back, running a clinic across from the Mar Vista Gardens housing project. All three notice changes. Suddenly there are outsiders everywhere: white people with beards, wearing V-neck sweaters and plaid shirts, running in jogging outfits or riding bikes with helmets, oblivious to the ga...
A Grave Situation is a dark story about obsession, revenge, and murder. Haunted by a past relationship that was destroyed by betrayal, and disturbing childhood memories, Stella Castellanos fixates on getting even with men who have crossed her. After becoming a stalking victim when she breaks up with her most recent boyfriend, she abandons the country to become an ESL teacher and to get away from the disillusionment around her. But before she leaves, she makes sure the score is settled. Her personal vendetta starts transforming her wrath into small doses of physical violence until it goes too far.Not far from Stella's Santiago de Chile apartment, fellow colleague, Kip Kowalski, sparks her interest in a long-term fantasy to commit a murder. His perverted, racist, sexist, and ignorant behavior represents everything that is wrong with mankind and fills Stella with disgust. She decides to strategically plan a murder after years of agonizing over the actuality of going through with it. As Stella prepares to carry out her twisted plan, her distinction between right and wrong disappears in this harrowing study of religious conflict, treachery, and retribution.
Based on a true, ripped-from-the-headlines story, The Federal Informant is a journey into the noir heart of 1990's Los Angeles street gangs. For Vito "Capone" Mejia, shot-calling gang member turned federal informant, collecting a government check and occasionally providing intelligence to get fellow comrades locked up seems like he's found the answer - until his cover is accidentally blown. A hardened criminal straight out of Corcoran State Prison, Mejia is convinced he could outflank the gang even though his handler wants to place him in the witness protection program. Pulling Mejia out in time could save him and provide his ultimate freedom. Staying around for one last weekend could cost him his life.

Urban Politics is a juxtaposition of sureno street gangs, political theory, and government organizations. This civil philosophy essay examines street gang behavior and culture through a political lens. It assesses political phenomenon such as: social contracts, the media, political parties, city council structures, budgeting, and other forms of political conduct, within a street gang organization context. Ribera d'Ebre offers a unique perspective into gang culture that challenges the reader to view street gangs from the inside with a creative slant while providing vital insight into the underground culture of street gang organizations.
Covering Portugal and Castile in the West to the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem in the East, this collection focuses on Muslim minorities living in Christian lands during the high Middle Ages, and examines to what extent notions of religious tolerance influenced Muslim-Christian relations. The authors call into question the applicability of modern ideas of toleration to medieval social relations, investigating the situation instead from the standpoint of human experience within the two religious cultures. Whereas this study offers no evidence of an evolution of coherent policy concerning treatment of minorities in these Christian domains, it does reveal how religious ideas and communitarian trad...
