Maximilian I (1459–1519) skillfully crafted a public persona and personal mythology that eventually earned him the romantic sobriquet “Last Knight.” From the time he became duke of Burgundy at the age of eighteen until his death, his passion for the trappings and ideals of knighthood served his worldly ambitions, imaginative strategies, and resolute efforts to forge a legacy. A master of self-promotion, he ordered exceptional armor from the most celebrated armorers in Europe, as well as heroic autobiographical epics and lavish designs for prints. Indeed, Maximilian’s quest to secure his memory and expand his sphere of influence, despite chronic shortages of funds that left many of his most ambitious projects unfinished, was indomitable. Um die Zukunft des Sammelns- und Präsentierens zu beleuchten, ist auch ein Blick in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart unabdingbar. Aspekte wie Provenienzforschung, Daten-Erheben in diversen naturwissenschaftlichen Bereichen bis zur Präsentation in Ausstellungen und der Vermittlung werden behandelt.
The Soviet Multinational State
The Soviet Union is a multinational state, with about half of the country's population being ethnically Russian. The advent of glasnost, and moves toward democratization and decentralization has unleashed the expression of national sentiments and interests in the USSR. This collection of Soviet materials surveys the many ramifications of the "nationality question" in the USSR in the 1980s. The topics covered include ideology, state organization, party recruitment, inter-republican economic relations, demographic factors, education, bilingualism, cultural institutions, religious traditions, military service, and disputes over republican prerogatives (in the Baltic) and over territory (the case of Nagorno-Karabakh). Each topical section includes a detailed introduction by the editor. This anthology provides coverage of the past decade, up to and including the current unrest and the impact of the Gorbachev reforms.

2023 feiert das Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum die 200-jährige Gründung. Von engagierten Kulturtreibenden Tirols initiiert, prägt das Ferdinandeum als zweitältestes Landesmuseum Österreichs mit seinen Sammlungen, Ausstellungen und wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten die Region. Im selben Jahr begeht das Museum im Zeughaus, das 1973 als Ausstellungshaus für Geschichte des Tiroler Raums dazu kam, sein 50-jähriges Bestandsjubiläum. Der vorliegende Band vereint Beiträge der Mitarbeiter*innen des Museums und externer Autor*innen, die sich mit unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Geschichte, der Sammlungsarbeit und der Konzert- und Ausstellungstätigkeit befassen.
