A few decades ago, management thinking started to embrace the idea of purpose. The first edition of this book marked an important step in this trajectory; it drew attention to the need for managers to relate the concepts of ‘purpose’ and ‘missions’ to strategy, culture and leadership. In the years since, purpose and missions have become business imperatives – not only in terms of remaining competitive but as core in the attempts to have a sustainable impact on the world. The second edition of Management by Missions is an open access book based on substantially more research carried out over fifteen years, involving more than 200 organizations around the world. All of this resear...
'A Little Dinner at Timmins's' is a novella written by William Makepeace Thackeray. The story begins by introducing us to a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Fitzroy Timmins, who live in a genteel neighborhood in Lilliput Street. Mrs. Timmins comes from a good family, with her mother always reminding Mr. Timmins of their distant relationship to the Earl of Bungay. Mr. Timmins is a lawyer with chambers in Fig-tree Court, Temple and practices on the Northern Circuit. He recently received a favorable outcome in a legal case and celebrated by purchasing several items, including a couple of mirrors, a coral for the baby, two dresses for Mrs. Timmins, and a rosewood desk.

This volume focuses on current evidence-based pharmacological treatments of various forms of pulmonary hypertension and provides a comprehensive review of the latest developments in this area. The first part of the book covers the definition, classification, pathophysiology, pathology, biomarkers and animal models of the disease, thus laying the conceptual basis for what follows. The middle section provides an overview of the established therapies, such as calcium channel blockers, prostanoids, endothelin receptor antagonists, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors and inhaled nitric oxide. The last section explores novel pathways and emerging therapeutic approaches including soluble guanylate cyclase stimulators, Rho-kinase inhibitors, inhibitors of serotonin receptors and transporters, peptide growth factors, vasoactive peptides, modulators of redox equilibrium and cyclic nucleotide homeostasis, as well as immunosuppressive and anti-proliferative agents. Particular attention is given to the clinical applications of these experimental therapies, that are on the horizon. The book thus spans the continuum from basic science to clinical applications.
