1, 2 Kings

General editor Lloyd J. Ogilvie brings together a team of skilled and exceptional communicators to blend sound scholarship with life-related illustrations. The design for the Preacher's Commentary gives the reader an overall outline of each book of the Bible. Following the introduction, which reveals the author's approach and salient background on the book, each chapter of the commentary provides the Scripture to be exposited. The New King James Bible has been chosen for the Preacher's Commentary because it combines with integrity the beauty of language, underlying Hebrew and Greek textual basis, and thought-flow of the 1611 King James Version, while replacing obsolete verb forms and other a...

For sixteen years, Russell Dilday was president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, one of the largest and most well-respected seminaries in the world. In 1994 his presidency ended in the wake of the Southern Baptist Convention's attempts to remake the Baptist world in its own fundamentalist image. Columns: Glimpses of a Seminary Under Assault chronicles these events by revisiting Dilday's monthly presidential columns at Southwestern. Through Dilday's words it is possible to reimagine a remarkable seminary both at the height of achievement and under the weight of an unjust assault on Baptist principles which continues to this day. While Dilday's columns are revealing, the book includes detailed accounts of events, personalities and dynamics that occurred each year during his tenure as president. These sketches paint a detailed picture of both the voracity of the assaults and the extent of loss for the seminary community and Texas Baptists.

There is, however, no lack of documentation for the ongoing "Fundamentalist-Moderate Controversy" in the Southern Baptist Convention. In fact, disciplined selection is necessary to keep this collection within manageable limits.

Systematic Theology, Volume 1, Fourth Edition

"Rivals the major systematic theologies of this century." --Baptist History and Heritage Journal, July 1996 "One of the characteristics of Garrett's system that needs especially to be noted is its balanced, judicious, and nearly invariably objective presentation of materials. While holding true to the teachings of his own Baptist faith, Garrett so carefully and judiciously presents alternatives . . . that teachers and students from other confessional and denominational positions will find his work instructive." --Consensus, 1997 "If one is searching for an extensive exposition of the biblical foundations and historical developments of the various loci of systematic theology, there is no more...

Jordon Frost and Colt McCoy were asked by U.S. President Hugh North to help his intelligence investigators find the person, persons, group or groups, responsible for what was believed to be a terrorist attack that sank a world-class cruise ship near Puerto Rico, a U.S. Caribbean island Commonwealth. Nine hundred passengers and crew were killed in the ear-shattering blast. Frost, McCoy and the other investigators started their search with zero information. All they had to work with came from news reports originating in the Middle East. One repeated the phrase Praise Be to Allah. Another came from a news reporter. He said: We have just learned a man identified only as the Barbary Lion has claimed responsibility for the sinking ship and the loss of life.

The Unfettered Word probes beyond the rhetoric of Southern Baptist discussions of "inerrancy" to address foundational issues crucial for understanding a national controversy. The authors are candid, precise, and thoroughly committed to the authority of Scripture. They clarify the fact that Southern Baptists have far more in common than the controversy over the theory of inerrancy might imply. - Roy B. Honeycutt, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, on back cover.

Theological Education and Christian Scholarship for Human Flourishing

This book explores the interconnection of theological education and Christian scholarship, cultural and theological hermeneutics, pedagogy and community knowledge, democracy and citizenship. Yet, the three major disciplines or discourses covered in this work include multicultural education, theology, and hermeneutics through the lens of human flourishing and the concept of the good life. From this angle, this project is written from three different methods and approaches that intersect with each other: a theology of contextualization, a hermeneutics of interculturality, and a pedagogy of cultural literacy and transformative community knowledge. The book advances the idea that theological edu...

The Battle for the Resurrection

Since the belief in a purely spiritual resurrection of Christ is prevalent in many cults, those involved in countering the rise and growth of cults would benefit greatly from reading this book. Dr. Walter Martin, author of 'The Kingdom of the Cults' Dr. Geisler's book is effectively designed as [an] antidote to the misery of turning Christ's factual resurrection into an event outside the bounds of ordinary history. Dr. John Warwick Montgomery, author of 'History and Christianity' Geisler demonstrates not only the danger in the theology of various cults but also the tendency to discount the bodily resurrection of the Lord, even among evangelicals. It is essential reading for every pastor and student. Dr. Paige Patterson, author of 'Song of Solomon' The proclamation that Jesus was raised in the same physical body in which he died is just as important today as it was in the first century. The book signals such a call to the importance of this doctrine. Dr. Gary Habermas, Distinguished Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy, Liberty University
