This book presents 17 selected papers from the 4th International Graphonomics Society Conference, held at the University of Trondheim (Norway) in July 1989. It focusses on different aspects of automatic processing of handwriting by computer. The book is divided into three sections. The first one surveys the research works done on automatic signature verification over the last 25 years. The second section deals with problems related to the design of on-line cursive script recognition and the implementation of this technology into an electronic pen pad. The third section focusses on the integration of contextual knowledge in these systems.

This volume highlights some of the multidisciplinary aspects of automatic signature verification. The first two chapters serve as an introduction. The first constitutes a review of the literature of the past five years. The second addresses the problem of parallel strategies to construct and optimize feature vectors to describe a signature. The remaining six chapters are divided into two sections: research on static systems and research on dynamic systems. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 20th International Conference of the International Graphonomics Society, IGS 2021/2022. Originally planned to be celebrated in September 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was held in June 2022. The 36 full and 3 short papers presented at the conference were carefully reviewed and selected from 41 submissions and reviewed by a committee of 67 reviewers. Out of the 41 conferences, 26 papers were selected to be published in this proceedings. The program was comprised of 6 oral sessions on the following topics: historical documents, forensic handwriting examinations, handwriting learning and development, and motor control. One additional poster session included papers on all previous topics, and three special sessions included papers on neurodegenerative disorders.
