Sustainable Management of Urban Plastic Waste Through Circular Economic Approaches covers the technologies and methods essential to overcome single-use plastic processing waste. It describes the biotechnological methods, cutting-edge research, procedures, and applications required to safeguard global sustainable development along with plastic waste management. This book: Describes technological advances made towards remediation and valorization technologies of plastic pollutants to reduce microplastic pollution Focuses on accelerating using single-use plastic waste in value-added products Includes examples and case studies of impact and treatment of plastics in the circular economy Explains the socio-economic benefits of reducing plastic pollution This book will be of interest to researchers, scientists, and engineers working on sustainable management of plastic waste, especially in the chemical and environmental engineering and biotechnology sectors.
This volume is a review of the trends in the field of radiation chemistry research. It covers a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from the historical perspective, instrumentation of accelerators in the nanosecond to femtosecond region, through the use ofradiation chemical methods in the study of antioxidants and nanomaterials, radiation-induced DNA damage by ionizing radiation involving both direct and indirect effects, to ultrafast events in free electron transfer, radiation-induced processes at solid-liquid interfaces and the recent work on infrared spectroscopy and radiation chemistry. The book is unique in that it covers a wide spectrum of topics that will be of great interest to beginners as well as experts. Recent data on ultrafast phenomena from the recently established world-class laser-driven accelerators facilities in the US, France and Japan are reviewed.
The use of organoselenium reagents as catalysts is a common thread that runs through the chapters of this book, introducing important aspects of the modern organoselenium chemistry: organocatalysis, green chemistry, bioinspiration, antioxidant activity. The eBook covers the most recent developments in the classical synthetic application of organoselenium reagents such as electrophilic, nucleophilic and free radical reagents. The volume also features a discussion on the synthesis and the synthetic applications of some emerging classes of selenium compounds such as hypervalent selenium species and selenoamides, and also addresses some biological aspects such as the antimicrobial activity of organoselenium derivatives and the biochemistry of selenoproteins. A number of eminent scientists from different research groups were involved in the preparation of the 13 chapters of the book, making Organoselenium Chemistry: Between Synthesis and Biochemistry an excellent reference about selenium chemistry for researchers and graduate students in the field of selenium chemistry.
