This book is not just about discussing or describing what forgiveness and reconciliation are all about but it is mainly to lay emphasis on how forgiveness and reconciliation can bring peace into human fellowships and relationships-- a path to reduce if not to eliminate wars all over the world. The path to these peaceful fellowships is stressed out in the book in the relationships between individual persons as well as among groups of people. To achieve the derivation of the peaceful fellowships at interpersonal, intergroup and political levels, various topics such as apology, anger, resentment, punishment, retribution, reparation, apathy and amnesty are treated to some extent. The training of African Christian ministers had been a matter of concern to the erstwhile International Missionary Council, now merged with the World Council of Churches. The reason was that it was believed by some critics that missionaries gave only low priority to theological training. This book recounts how the missionaries actually trained the indigenous leaders in the mission fields. The study covers the world of British, German, Swiss and American Protestant missionaries as well as that of two Roman Catholic orders in seminary training relating to Anglophone West Africa. The value of the book is that its contents, apart from filling a vacuum in the ecclesiastical history of West Africa, will supply the factual basis upon which an objective evaluation can be given about the efforts of the Western missionary theological training until 1970.

While there has been substantial progress in reducing global poverty in recent years, hundreds of millions of vulnerable children remain trapped in extreme poverty. This is especially the case on the African continent, where children account for the majority and growing proportion of the population. Despite rapid economic growth in several African countries, as well as significant achievements in both development and humanitarian interventions, a staggering number of African children remain vulnerable to extreme levels of deprivation. Existing challenges notwithstanding, a number of social policies and programmes proved successful in alleviating the burden of child poverty and deprivation. I...
