The book is devoted to the highly versatile and potential ingredient Cyclodextrin, a family of cyclic oligosaccharides composed of ?-(1,4)-linked glucopyranose subunits. Its molecular complexation phenomena and negligible cytotoxic effects attribute toward its application such as in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, agriculture, textile, separation process, analytical methods, catalysis, environment protection, and diagnostics. Efforts have also been made to concentrate on recent research outcomes along with future prospects of cyclodextrins to attract the interest of scientists from the industry and academia. Fertility Cryopreservation

Protecting the reproductive potential of young patients undergoing cancer therapy is increasingly important. With modern treatment protocols, 80% of patients can be expected to survive. It has been estimated that up to one in 250 young adults will be a survivor of childhood cancer in the future; infertility, however, may be a consequence. As a wide range of fertility preservation methods are increasingly offered by clinicians, this systematic and comprehensive textbook dealing with the cryobiology, technology and clinical approach to this therapy will be essential reading to infertility specialists, embryologists, oncologists, cryobiologists, ObGyns, andrologists, and urologists with an interest in fertility preservation. Fertility Cryopreservation reviews all the techniques of this increasingly important field within reproductive medicine. It covers the basic principles of pertinent cryobiology, and contains major sections on the different therapies available, written by international specialists combining experience from both academic centers and commercial industries.

Critical Race Studies Across Disciplines

Critical Race Studies Across Disciplines

This book argues that critical race theory (CRT)—which originated within Legal Studies during the 1970s—has permeated multiple academic disciplines and informs the ethical commitments of scholars in diverse fields of study. Critical Race Studies Across Disciplines includes essays by scholars of African American studies from various disciplines, who directly and indirectly incorporate CRT through signaling a commitment to scholar-activism or scholactivism. Scholactivists hope to understand the roots of anti-Black racism and to actively oppose all forms of oppression. Drawing on CRT, the volume counters the colorblind rhetoric of those who dismiss the notion of systemic racism, discount racial inequities, and disregard racial justice advocates as malcontents fanning the flames of racial dissension. The contributors of this collection challenge racism centering the stories, perspectives, and counter-narratives of African American soldiers, teachers, students, writers, psychologists, and theologians who continually defy and resist oppression in myriad ways.

Goya, Chronicler of War : the Disasters and War Photography

  • Categories: Art

"In the prints of The Disasters Goya compliled a collection of the horrors of the Spanish Peninsular War again Napoleon's troops (1808-14). But his condemnation is impartial, alternately critical of the cruelty on both sides, and this is why his etchings have become a pacifist discourse that is timeless in its scope. These images are the artist's first banging on the table in protest, and they speak directly to our consciences. The way Goya represented war is far removed from any idea of heroism and has few precedents in the history of art. His vehemence is certainly unique, however, Goya placed his genius in the service of a cause which had no impact on the society of his time. His opinions, full of intelligent doubts and mixed feelings, remained etched on those prints like a condemnation of war. The object of this exhibition is to project Goya's condemnation forward to our time. And his indignation has been best captured by certain war photographers. Through their dangerous work many of them have constructed a discourse which echoes Goya's view as applied to our own shameful conflicts.' ... p. 17
