'The Lieutenant and Others' is a collection of short stories that was written during the First World War. Cyril McNeile was born on 28th September 1888, in Bodmin, Cornwall. McNeile's writing career began in 1915 when the Daily Mail serialised Reminiscences of Sergeant Michael Cassidy. He wrote under the pseudonym "Sapper" due to British Army personnel being barred from publishing under their real names. McNeile's most famous creation was that of Bull-Dog Drummond in 1920. Drummond was an ex-army captain with a thirst for adventure and defeating bad guys.
