Fiction. Poetry. Women's Studies. Art. Film. Performance Studies. A character called X journeys through a present that is neither here nor there, but feels oddly proximate. She moves through landscapes of words, ever-shifting to host the groundless present, a place and time driven by her motivated, yet contextless pursuit. Narrative is always under construction. The preferred medium for X's peregrinations: a sentence, as capacious as a three-second video, a ten-year nap, or an unexplored hard drive. In this suspended world, X's sensorium is curious and alert, but also anguished, hesitant, and precarious: she feels around for sympathetic energies and familiar faces along the way. Along what w...

"George Maciunas is typically associated with the famous art collective Fluxus, of which he is often thought to have been the leader. In this book, critic and art historian Colby Chamberlain wants us to question two things: first, the idea that Fluxus was a "group" in any conventional sense, and second, that Maciunas was its "leader." Instead, Chamberlain shows us how Maciunas used the paper materials of bureaucracy in his art-cards, certificates, charts, files, and plans, among others-to subvert his own status as a "figurehead" of this collective and even as a biographical entity. Each of the book's chapters situates Maciunas's artistic practice in relation to a different domain: education,...

This book was created by Sara Magenheimer and Joseph Logan as a companion to Magenheimer's video, Best is Man's Breath Quality, and printed on the occasion of the video's performance installation, I Collect Neglected Venoms, at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, curated by Kristan Kennedy for TBA 2017. The performance and an accompanying exhibition were originally comissioned by Lumi Tan and Tim Griffin for The Kitchen in New York City in February 2017. Magenheimer would like to gratefully acknowledge both Lumi Tan and Kristan Kennedy without whose fearlessness, trust, support, boundless enthusiasm, and intelligence neither the exhibition, the performance, nor the book would exist.

Poetry. Drama. African & African American Studies. Glaring: a sustained look of anger, an obvious fact, a situation of such brightness and intensity that vision is obscured. In his debut book of poems, Benjamin Krusling is concerned with reading domination and violence and entering their psychotic motion, the better to do otherwise. Through the thicket of anti-blackness, militarism, surveillance, impoverishment, and interpersonal abuse and violence, GLARING investigates the things that haunt daily life and make love difficult, possible, necessary.
