Railroad Builders: The Dunavant Family of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee (Supplement)

"Railroad Builders: The Dunavant Family of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee" introduced Henry Jackson "Jack" Dunavant (1875-1928) and described many of the large-scale construction projects he completed in North Carolina and throughout the South. (Charlotte's Dunavant Street was named in his honor.) It also introduced his wife, Louise Wert Dunavant (1886-1967), and described how she supervised the initial construction of Charlotte's Carolina Golf Club and successfully launched that project during the Great Depression. This supplemental e-book introduced their immediate family and related families, and this latest edition also recalls how the Henkel - Dunavants of Statesville helped to develop the beautiful mountain town of Blowing Rock. This two-volume work received both a History Book Award and a Family History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians in 2015.

West to Montana

On a homestead in the rugged Missouri River Breaks of Montana, the Wortmans carve a brittle existence out of the sagebrush and gumbo, enduring the brutal weather, a harsh land, and dark family tragedies. This sweeping saga of homesteaders captures all the grit and determination of generations of the Wortman, Godsey, Gilmore, and Ness families as they move west from the Atlantic colonies to post-Civil War Missouri farms and on to the Montana Territory. Based on richly detailed family diaries and letters, West to Montana brings our American story to life in this classic family epic from author Christine Wortman-Engren.

The cemeteries of Winston County contain the ancestors of the descendants who populate the county. They contain the remains of the earliest settlers, Civil War soldiers, early county officials and politicians, merchants, tradesmen, farmers, and their familes. Without their successful efforts to carve an existence out of the Winston County wildnerness, the rest of us would not be here. Much of the history of the county was written on the old tombstones found across the county. Volume I of this two volume series alphabetically covers Winston County Cemeteries A through L beginning with the Addison Church of God Cemetery and ending with the Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The book contains dozens of pictures of the cemeteries plus hundreds of annotations which include sites of unmarked graves mentioned in newspaper accounts plus the company and unit of every known Civil War era soldier, both Union and Confederate. The book concludes with a full name index.
