This interdisciplinary resource on information management covers storing and transferring information, and how information is organized, accessed, interpreted, distributed, and used. It includes the subjects of computer science, library science, artificial intelligence, engineering, linguistics, psychology, mathematics of programming, and the theory of problem solving. Readers learn about documentation, cataloging and classification, and archives and record management. Information research and publishing, as well as digital technologies and libraries, are explored. With the explosion in data processing technology and its use by individuals, companies, and academic institutions, the need for organizing and managing information and systems today has never been more vital.
This book is the result of fifteen years of studies on art, in collaboration with mathematicians (in particular Jean-Paul Guichard and the IREM of Poitiers). Until the Renaissance, the composition of painting and architecture was based on a specific geometry, called with the eyes. Its adventure began before writing, and books report nothing about. This practice avoids calculation for fear of scaring numbers, thanks to a grid where the figures are constructed. Thales, like many Greek philosophers, went to Egypt to learn it - he will give his name to the axioms. Then, all the properties are demonstrated with visual evidences, qualified as monstrations, in particular the four manifestations of the golden ratio in the triangle 3-4-5. This book offers a rich pedagogical material, as well as a solid basis for reflection on art and history. Rublev, Botticelli and Dürer are the great masters of this art. The color images for the screen, and the B/W for print, are accessible on the Internet.
Assisted by Scott Olsen ( Central Florida Community College, USA ). This volume is a result of the author's four decades of research in the field of Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Section and their applications. It provides a broad introduction to the fascinating and beautiful subject of the OC Mathematics of Harmony, OCO a new interdisciplinary direction of modern science. This direction has its origins in OC The ElementsOCO of Euclid and has many unexpected applications in contemporary mathematics (a new approach to a history of mathematics, the generalized Fibonacci numbers and the generalized golden proportions, the OC goldenOCO algebraic equations, the generalized Binet formulas, Fibo...
This unique book overturns our ideas about non-Euclidean geometry and the fine-structure constant, and attempts to solve long-standing mathematical problems. It describes a general theory of 'recursive' hyperbolic functions based on the 'Mathematics of Harmony,' and the 'golden,' 'silver,' and other 'metallic' proportions. Then, these theories are used to derive an original solution to Hilbert's Fourth Problem for hyperbolic and spherical geometries. On this journey, the book describes the 'golden' qualitative theory of dynamical systems based on 'metallic' proportions. Finally, it presents a solution to a Millennium Problem by developing the Fibonacci special theory of relativity as an original physical-mathematical solution for the fine-structure constant. It is intended for a wide audience who are interested in the history of mathematics, non-Euclidean geometry, Hilbert's mathematical problems, dynamical systems, and Millennium Problems.See Press Release: Application of the mathematics of harmony - Golden non-Euclidean geometry in modern math
Have you ever stared at patterned wallpaper and wondered how it was designed? Been captivated by some priceless Celtic art? Or boggled at a beautiful Islamic pattern? Have you ever stepped back and thought about the illusion of reality your senses create for you? Or pondered the symmetries which inform your feelings of what seems right? Is there a Golden secret, revealed by nature herself, which is common to all of the traditional arts? Packed with information and exquisite illustrations by more than twelve expert authors, Designa is the ultimate sourcebook for visual artists and designers of every kind.
What was the golden secret known to Leonardo da Vinci, Kepler, Plato and the ancient magicians? Can there really be a key to nature and life itself? In this small but compact volume internationally renowned divine proportion supersleuth Dr Olsen unravels perhaps the greatest mystery of all time, a code that seems to underly life, the universe and everything, a pattern we instinctively recognise as beautiful, and which nature herself uses at every scale. Designed for artists and scientists alike, this is the smallest, densest and most beautiful book on the golden section ever produced. WOODEN BOOKS are small but packed with information.
