The stories in this volume are in five sections. The first contains "Retirement Stories" about senior citizens coping with old age or recalling past loves and adventures. The second section is called "Sequels and Series." It includes three more "In Olden Times" stories about Abe and his family dragon Bob, and three more adventure stories about Alvin Oaks, who's partially solved the Universal Theorem, both introduced in Volume II. Finally, there are three stories about Uncle Pringle, a retired possibly CIA agent turned consultant, who helps people with their problems in sometimes surprising ways. The "Speculative Stories" in the third section include one in which an author's characters come to life, two in which super-intelligent inhabitants of another planet debate the fate of Earth, and one in which "Journeyman Meets Seinfeld." The "Dark Stories" of the fourth section are about the fearsome things that lurk "Out There," and similar menaces. The fifth section has "Stories Written (Mostly) for Fun" plus a few "serious" stories, concluding one about "When My Father Met My Mother." I hope readers will have fun reading all these stories.
When the planet Empyrea, a colony of genetically perfected human beings, demands that the Federation remove a science station which has been in place for nearly twenty years, the Starship Enterprise™ is assigned to transport to the planet the Federation ambassador who negotiated with the Empyreans long ago -- an ambassador who was once Dr. McCoy's closest friend, but is now a bitter rival. On Empyrea, McCoy discovers Anna, a daughter he never knew he had. McCoy soon realizes that the isolationist Empyreans must not learn her father is an off-worlder, and that her genes are less than ""perfect."" As relations with the Empyreans collapse around him, McCoy must find a way to save his newfound daughter from the harshest penalty her planet can impose!
The eclectic Orange County band No Doubt was formed in 1986 by Eric Stefani and John Spence who soon recruited Eric’s younger sister Gwen as co-vocalist. With the addition of Tony Kanal on Bass, they launched a 20 year career that would fuse ska, grunge, alt. rock and shades of several other musical genres into a unique mix. The 1987 suicide of John Spence resulted in the battlefield promotion of Gwen to lead vocalist, a shift that would prove a launch pad for her future solo career and media celebrity status. Through it all No Doubt went from strength to strength and in 1995, following the departure of Eric Stefani, finally found mainstream success when their third album, Tragic Kingdom, enjoyed over 15 million sales worldwide. Since then this ska-loving band from Southern California has flourished. Despite a frequently changing line-up and the potential distraction of Sven’s parallel solo career, No Doubt have stayed true to their mission to be musical and visual innovators.
