In recent years, problems such as environmental and economic crises and pandemics caused by new viruses have been occurring on a global scale. Globalization brings about benefits, but it can increase the potential risks of “systemic problems”, leading to system-wide disruptions. The coronavirus pandemic, declared on March 11, 2020, by the World Health Organization, has revealed social disparities in the form of a higher risk of death for people of low-socioeconomic status and has caused massive destruction of the economy and of globalization itself. The significance of polyamines in cell proliferation and carcinogenesis has stimulated further research interest in their biochemistry and metabolism. These papers, which update the available literature on polyamines, are grouped into four main areas: the metabolism of polyamines; the effect of polyamines on cellular metabolism; inhibitors of polyamine metabolism and their clinical relevance; application to diagnosis and prognosis. The Proceedings include contributions from a wide range of research interests with special emphasis being placed on the clinical aspects of these compounds.

Linear chain substances span a large cross section of contemporary chemistry ranging from covalent polymers, to organic charge transfer com plexes to nonstoichiometric transition metal coordination complexes. Their commonality, which coalesced intense interest in the theoretical and exper imental solid state physics/chemistry communities, was based on the obser vation that these inorganic and organic polymeric substrates exhibit striking metal-like electrical and optical properties.
