Há um velho postulado segundo o qual literatura não se faz com bons sentimentos. Assim é em Cavala, livro de estreia de Sergio Tavares, vencedor do Prêmio SESC 2009 na categoria conto. Não que os personagens criados pelo autor sejam maus; porém, tomados por desvios, complexos e compulsões sexuais, cometem atos violentos — ao mesmo tempo em que buscam uma espécie de refúgio em amores, lembranças ou dores. Foi da vivência na profissão — em reportagens e entrevistas — que o autor retirou inspiração para compor as tramas e personagens das quatro densas narrativas. Narradas em primeira pessoa, as histórias conduzem o leitor por situações onde o real e o irreal equilibram-se numa linha tênue. Assim é com o primeiro conto, que empresta o título ao livro, protagonizado por uma jovem modelo, bulímica e em surto psicótico.
