In Search of ʻAlī Ibn Abī Ṭālib's Codex
The history of the text of the Qur'an has been a longstanding subject of interest within the field of Islamic Studies, but the debate has so far been focused on the Sunni traditions about the codices of Caliphs Abu Bakr and 'Uthman b. 'Affan. Little to no attention has been given to the traditions on 'Ali b. Abi Talib's collection of the Qur'an. This book examines both Shi'i and Sunni traditions on the issue, aiming to date them back to the earliest possible date and, if possible, verify their authenticity. To achieve this, the traditions are examined using Harald Motzki's isnad-cum-matn method, which is recognised as an efficient tool in dating the early Islamic traditions and involves analysis of both matn (text) and isnad (chain of trans-mission) with an emphasis on finding a correlation between the two.
Conversion to Islam

In early Islamic sources, references to conversion describe an act of religious, political, and social transition. Conversion stories were an important way for historians to emphasize Allah at work in the Muslim community and to convey the unique qualities of Muhammad and the Qu'ran. In these texts, historians not only revealed the diverse nature of conversion and perceptions of it, but also illuminated their own religious debates, social concerns, political orientations, and ideological agendas. Conversion to Islam is the first scholarly study to identify and analyze these conversion themes in early Muslim historiographies.

Contemporary Encounters in Gender and Religion
The fields of gender and religious studies have often been criticized for neglecting to engage with one another, and this volume responds to this dearth of interaction by placing the fields in an intimate dialogue. Taking a multi-disciplinary approach and drawing on feminist scholarship, the book undertakes theoretical and empirical explorations of relational and co-constitutive encounters of gender and religion. Tawatur in Islamic Thought is an attempt to unravel the twisted historical threads of the conception and usage of tawatur across diverse Islamic disciplines, in light of both Western academia and debates within Muslim scholarship. In the process, numerous salient questions in Islamic thought are tackled, such as epistemic certitude, scholarly consensus (ijm??), and the rationalism traditionalism relationship. The study culminates in the question of the extent to which tawatur was used by Muslim scholars to define the boundaries of Islam and of orthodoxy. Tawatur in Islamic Thought shows that the majority voices in Muslim scholarship, across sectarian boundaries, reached a steady-state conception of a two-tiered orthodoxy, corresponding to two tiers of tawatur an outer tier that includes all who affirm a definitive kernel of Islam and an inner tier that is more exclusive.

Land and Trade in Early Islam discusses the latest developments in the field of early Islamic economic and social history, and explores the notion of polycentrism and the dialectic between global and local between 700 and 1050 CE.
