Hak Asasi Manusia (HAM) muncul dari keyakinan manusia itu sendiri bahwasanya semua manusia selaku makhluk ciptaan Tuhan sama serta sederajat. Manusia dilahirkan lepas dan memiliki martabat juga hak-hak yang sama. Bagi dasar itulah manusia mesti diperlakukan secara sama, setimpal, dan beradab. Oleh karena itu juga, HAM bersifat universal.
