My heart in your hands

My heart in your hands is a platform for poets in Namibia to speak out. It lays bare the hearts of nearly 100 poets who have with courage, honesty, and love, spilled their thoughts, tears, rage, regrets, love and laughter onto the pages of this book. This collection celebrates the country’s natural beauty, stands in awe of the strength of our people, expresses anger at the inequality and injustices present in our society and imagines idyllic dreams and hopes for a better future. The poems display rich poetic nuances, vary in length and form and give a textured view of the poets and the environments they represent, a true reflection of Namibian diversity, and a glimpse into our soul.

"The other presence is a novel that depicts and portrays beliefs, attitudes and viewpoints of African village people on the concept of death. The underlying belief is that, in African traditional set-ups, there is no death that occurs innocently. Behind every death, there is some form of mysterious work by either a sorcerer or a spell. Even in the situation where a Western clinic diagnoses a patient as a HIV carrier, the cause of the death of that person would have to be interrogated. The book illustrates how elder Sinvula, battles with the insinuations and accusations that he is responsible for the death of his nephew, Akapelwa. Ma Simanga, the bereaved mother has vowed not to leave a stone unturned. This time, she would stretch her trip to East Africa where answers would be given about the cause of her son's death. As in other deaths in her family, the pension payout from the deceased's contributions would be used to pay the seers."--Page 4 of cover

A powerful analysis of events that helped galvanise resistance across civil society The 2017 publication of Betrayal of the Promise, the report that detailed the systematic nature of state capture, marked a key moment in South Africa’s most recent struggle for democracy. In the face of growing evidence of corruption and of the weakening of state and democratic institutions, it provided, for the first time, a powerful analysis of events that helped galvanise resistance within the Tripartite Alliance and across civil society. Working often secretly, the authors consolidated, for the first time, large amounts of evidence from a variety of sources. They showed that the Jacob Zuma administratio...

Growing up in Mthatha, light-skinned Karabo is called 'yellowbone'. She often hears her parents argue, not realising her complexion, and questions surrounding her paternity, is the cause. People expect 'exotic' Karabo to coast through life on her looks. But she has high aspirations and goes to London to study architecture. When Karabo is invited to a private recital, a priceless antique violin binds her fate to that of virtuoso André Potgieter who came to London to hide his secret - though no saint, he sees angels when he plays a beautiful piece of music. Whether it is synaesthesia or something otherworldly, he cannot say. All he knows is that he would do anything to keep seeing the angels, but these days they rarely come to him. Events on the night of the recital cause Karabo to run away to Ghana to the refuge of her father, but her plans go horribly wrong. And André soon follows for his own selfish reasons.
