Biobanks and Tissue Research
The research field of biobanks and tissue research is highly promising. Many projects around the globe are involved in the collection of human tissue and health data for research purposes. These initiatives are driven by the perspective of decisive breakthroughs in the knowledge of the genetic pathways involved in widespread diseases. However, there are considerable ethical and legal challenges to be considered as well. These challenges encompass the use of body material for research purposes, the misuse of genetic and other health data by third parties, trust in science and medicine, concerns regarding privacy, use of genetic data for forensic applications by the state and the police, and regulatory issues. This volume is divided into three parts: the inclusion of the public, the rights of donors and patients, examples and recommendations for the future of tissue research. It presents a comprehensive overview of the most important topics in the field by renowned scholars in medical ethics and biolaw.

Völlig neue kulturelle, soziale und religiöse Bedingungen haben zu umfassenden Transformationsprozessen geführt: zentrale religiöse Inhalte, Identitätskonstruktionen auf der Basis von Nationalität, Kultur, Geschlecht werden potenziert, fragmentiert und wieder neu zusammengesetzt. Enträumlichung und Entgrenzung von (religiösen) Identitäten in einer von Säkularisierung geprägten neuen Umgebung prägen das yezidische Leben in Deutschland. Auf Grundlage der hoch aktuellen Theorie des Spatial Turn untersucht Thorsten Wettich die yezidische Gemeinschaft in Niedersachsen und leistet so einen signifikanten Beitrag für die noch junge Disziplin der empirisch arbeitenden Yezidologie.

Was macht eine Moschee aus? In ihrer Untersuchung der Strukturen und zentralen Angebote »Gebet«, »Bildung« und »öffentliche Veranstaltungen« gibt Veronika Rückamp Einblicke in das Alltagshandeln in Moscheen. Anhand qualitativer Interviews und Feldforschung in Zürich und Wien zeigt sie, dass sich Moscheen in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen sich wandelnden Mitgliedererwartungen und externen Einflüssen befinden und sich dabei immer wieder neu definieren müssen. Damit leistet sie einen wichtigen Beitrag, um Moscheen in der Schweiz und in Österreich jenseits von Integrationsfragen besser zu verstehen.

Seine Ergebnisse regen dazu an, adäquate Alternativangebote zu schaffen, die der Attraktivität salafistischer Propaganda entgegenwirken, Jugendliche für Mediennutzung sensibilisieren und sie dazu befähigen, religiöse Inhalte kritisch zu reflektieren.
