NICK

Uma história na qual acontece de tudo um pouco, mas o que mais prevalece é a coragem e a determinação. Nick, um garoto muito esperto, encorajou-se e, buscando salvar sua vida, não pensou no depois, só no agora. Passou fome, frio, medo... Horrores! "Vi a morte diante de mim várias vezes... Briguei comigo mesmo, para me posicionar como homem. Tive que deixar minha inocência de lado, meu medo e esquecer minha pouca idade, pois, diante de mim, havia a liberdade tão sonhada e desafios inesperados. Eu não poderia desistir, nem queria isso..."

Tumor Suppressor Par-4

Par-4 is a naturally occurring tumor suppressor. Studies have indicated that overexpression of Par-4 selectively induces apoptosis in cancer cells while leaving normal, health, cells unaffected. Mechanisms contributing to this cancer-selective action of Par-4 have been associated with PKA activation of intracellular Par-4 in cancer cells or GRP78 expression primarily on the surface of cancer cells. On the other hand, endogenous Par-4 sensitizes cells to the action of a broad range of apoptotic inducers acting via the extrinsic and intrinsic pathways. A number of binding partners of Par-4 have been identified and shown to regulate Par-4 function in cancer and other diseases, such as Alzheimer...

Female Highlife Performers in Ghana

This book offers a detailed analysis of the history of female musicians in the Highlife music tradition of the Republic of Ghana, particularly the challenges and constraints these women faced and overcame. Highlife – a form of West African music infusing Ghana’s traditional Akan dance rhythms and melodies with European instruments and harmonies – grew in popularity throughout the 20th century and hit its peak in the 1970s and 1980s. Although women played significant roles in the evolution and survival of the genre, few of their contributions have been thoroughly explored or documented. Despite being disregarded and ignored in many spheres, female Highlife musicians thrived and became trailblazers in the Ghanaian music industry, making particularly vibrant contributions to Highlife music in the 1970s. This book presents the voices of female Highlife artists and documents the ideological transformations expressed through their musical works, exploring the challenges they confronted throughout their musical careers and their contributions to music and culture in Ghana.
