This has resulted in increased access to social and legal rights, enhanced protection against discrimination, increased visibility and more opportunities to organising in associations and make connections. Nevertheless, studies show that a gender identity or sexual orientation that does not follow the conventional norm still significantly increases the risk of ill health. How do these conditions affect older LGBTI people's opportunities in ageing and what happens in contact with health and social care? The Nordic Council of Ministers has initiated a project that will contribute to increased knowledge about the living conditions and quality of life of older LGBTI people, especially in their encounter with health and social care. The report is based on publications consisting of both quantitative and qualitative studies.
Health, well-being and life conditions of young LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries: A literature review and survey of efforts
Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2021-534/ Despite the fact that life conditions of LGBTI persons in the Nordic countries have changed in the last seventy years, major public health surveys indicate that this group suffers from an increased amount of mental and physical health issues compared to the rest of the population. Younger generations of LGBTI persons see their lives affected, too, by having a sexuality or gender identity that falls outside heteronormativity. The Nordic Council of Ministers, therefore, has initiated a project that aims to shed light on the well-being of young LGBTI persons. Nordic Information on Gender, NIKK, has carried out the project, which has resulted in the report at hand.
Grievance Formation, Rights and Remedies
In the last century, the treatment of victims of involuntary sterilisation and castration in Nordic countries has varied drastically from state-to-state, across time and victim groups. Considering why this is the case, Daniela Alaattinoğlu investigates how laws and practices of involuntary, surgical sterilisation and castration have been established, abolished and remedied in three Nordic states: Sweden, Norway and Finland. Employing a vast range of primary and secondary sources, Alaattinoğlu traces the national and international developments of the last 100 years. Developing the concept of grievance formation, the book explores why some states have claimed public responsibility while others have not, and why some victim groups have mobilised while others have remained silent. Through this pioneering analysis, Alaattinoğlu illuminates issues of human and constitutional rights, the evolution of the welfare state and state responsibility in both a national and global context.

Current understandings of ageing and diversity are impoverished in three main ways. Firstly, with regards to thinking about what inequalities operate in later life there has been an excessive preoccupation with economic resources. On the other hand, less attention has been paid to cultural norms and values, other resources, wider social processes, political participation and community engagement. Intersections of Ageing, Gender and Sexualities
Available Open Access under CC-BY-NC licence. With an increasingly diverse ageing population, we need to expand our understanding of how social divisions intersect to affect outcomes in later life. This edited collection examines ageing, gender, and sexualities from multidisciplinary and geographically diverse perspectives and looks at how these factors combine with other social divisions to affect experiences of ageing.
