Engineering Distributed Objects
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Engineering Distributed Objects, EDO 2000, held in November 2000 in Davis, California, USA. The 15 revised full papers presented together with session surveys were carefully reviewed and selected from 30 submissions. The book presents topical sections on middleware selection, resource management, architectural reasoning, distributed communication, advanced transactions, and service integration.
Security Protocols
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Security Protocols held in Cambridge, UK in April 2000. The 21 papers presented with transcriptions of the discussion following the presentation have gone through two rounds of revision and selection; also included are a keynote address and a discussion summary and an afterword by the volume editors. Among the topics addressed are authentication, trust in cyberspace, identification protocols, administration and government issues, specification, access privileges, PKI certificates, trust-based billing systems, public-key cryptosystems, denial of service, anonymous auction protocols, and certification.
Transactions of the International Astronomical Union
The XXth General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union was held in Baltimore, Maryland USA from August 02 to 11, 1988. The Inaugural Ceremony on August 02 was held in the presence of representatives of the United States Governn:ent, t~e S~ate of Maryland, the City of Baltimore and the host institution -the Johns Hopkins Umverslty- as well as of the National and Local Organising Committees. The scientific programme maintained the high standards of the Union and the scientific proceedings may be found either in this volume or in volume 8 of Highlights of Astronomy. The scientific programme was organised by the 40 Commission Presidents and coordinated by the General Secretary (1985-1988), Dr. J.-P. Swings. The local arrangements were effectively made through the National Organising Committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. F. Drake and the Local Organising Committee under the co-Chairmanship of Prof. A. Oavidsen and Dr. R. Giacconi. The smooth day to day operation of the meeting resulted from the incomparable dedication of Karen Weinstock and Harold Screen.
Distributed Computing
DISC, the International Symposium on DIStributed Computing, is an annual forum for research presentations on all facets of distributed computing. DISC 2000 was held on4-6 October, 2000 in Toledo, Spain. This volume includes 23 contributed papers and the extended abstract of an invited lecture from last year’s DISC. It is expected that the regular papers will later be submitted in a more polished form to fully refereed scienti?c journals. The extended abstracts of this year’s invited lectures, by Jean-Claude Bermond and Sam Toueg, will appear in next year’s proceedings. We received over 100 regular submissions, a record for DISC. These s- missions were read and evaluated by the program committee, with the help of external reviewers when needed. Overall, the quality of the submissions was excellent, and we were unable to accept many deserving papers. This year’s Best Student Paper award goes to “Polynomial and Adaptive Long-Lived (2k?1)-Renaming” by Hagit Attiya and Arie Fouren. Arie Fouren is the student author.
