Francouzský institut je významnou zahraniční institucí s téměř stoletou tradicí. Mezi lety 1920 –1951 se stal hlavním svorníkem česko-francouzských kulturních vztahů. Od založení hledal svou pozici v rámci kulturní diplomacie a politických vztahů mezi oběma zeměmi, hledal své místo mezi „vzděláním“ a „propagandou“.
