In the year 2000, two young editors, Nicholas Blincoe and Matt Thorne, published All Hail the New Puritans, an anthology of short stories which created an impact in the somewhat faded literary scene of Britain at the turn of the millennium. The stories themselves, written by 15 young English writers (Scarlett Thomas, Alex Garland, Ben Richards, Nicholas Blincoe, Candida Clark, Daren King, Geoff Dyer, Matt Thorne, Anna Davis, Bo Fowler, Matthew Branton, Simon Lewis, Tony White, Toby Litt and Rebbecca Ray), together with the editors' manifesto, offered a new and stimulating approach to fiction, although the whole project had an outrageous reception by the literary establishment. For the first time, a collection of essays addresses the importance of the New Puritan movement and provides guidelines to understand this generation of writers.
Perhaps the most serious challenge that the present volume offers to the latest literature on the tapie is the reflection on gender, space and literature from the perspective of masculinity, a position which has been no doubt neglected by many years of feminist debate concentrating on women's positions and circumstances. This is specifically one of the novelties that the Intemational Conference on Gendered Spaces, celebrated in May 2001 at the University of Huelva, from which this work springs, introduced. This book examines how contemporary women novelists have successfully transformed and rewritten the conventions of post-apocalyptic fiction. Since the dawn of the new millennium, there has been an outpouring of writing that depicts the end of the world as we know it, and women writers are no exception to this trend. However, the book argues that their fiction is distinctive. Contemporary women’s work in this genre avoids conservatism, a nostalgic mourning for the past, and the focus on restoring what has been lost, aspects key to much male authored apocalyptic fiction. Instead, contemporary women writers show readers the ways in which patriarchy and neo-colonialism are intrinsically implicated in the disasters they envision, and offer qualified hope for a new beginning for society, culture and literature after an imagined apocalyptic event. Exploring science, nature and matter, the posthuman body, the maternal imaginary, time, narrative and history, literature and the word, and the post-secular, the book covers a wide variety of writers and addresses issues of nationality, race and ethnicity, as well as gender and sexuality.

This book is a collection of articles written by international members of the Spanish Association for Interdisciplinary India Studies, a scientific organization dedicated to the development of studies on India from an interdisciplinary perspective, and which seeks to promote cultural and scientific relations between India and Spain. It covers many areas of the Humanities such as literature, film studies, history, and literary theory from an Indo-Canadian perspective. The book is divided into two parts. Part I is dedicated to literature and literary criticism. While some articles focus on individual authors, others make a broad analysis of particular themes, such as the Indian diaspora in Canada from a feminist perspective, gender and power relations, or focus on specific locations such as the reconstruction of India in East Africa, the Iberian connection in Indo-Canadian diasporic history, and India in Canada within the historical and literary consciousness. Part II of the book includes several essays on audiovisual translation, film, drama, poetry as well as three pieces of creative writing by renowned Indo-Canadian authors.

The book opens with two theoretical essays on the subject of subversive tendencies and myth reinvention in the contemporary novel. From there, it moves on to the analysis of essential texts.
