Reflecting the variety and diversity of mobile methods and their applications, this comprehensive Handbook illuminates the multiple dimensions and transdisciplinary nature of mobilities research, from transport to tourism, cargo to information as well as physical, virtual and imaginative mobilities. It brings together key contributions on the state of the art of qualitative and quantitative research, multimethod combinations and co-creation methods within the mobilities paradigm.
Examines questions of identity and self-understanding in six life-careers in the Austrian intellectual and political elite. This title also presents fresh perspective on the six examined individuals, whose scholarly, artistic, and bureaucratic careers are placed in a political context.
Hybrid intelligent systems are becoming a very important problem-solving methodology affecting researchers and practitioners in areas ranging from science and technology to business and commerce. This volume focuses on the hybridization of different soft computing technologies and their interactions with hard computing techniques, other intelligent computing frameworks, and agents. Topics covered include: genetic-neurocomputing, neuro-fuzzy systems, genetic-fuzzy systems, genetic-fuzzy neurocomputing, hybrid optimization techniques, interaction with intelligent agents, fusion of soft computing and hard computing techniques, other intelligent systems and hybrid systems applications. The different contributions were presented at the first international workshop on hybrid intelligent systems (HIS1) in Adelaide, Australia.
The papers from this conference deal with multi-fluid flows and interfacial instabilities. Papers on multiple-layer convection, wave dynamics in viscous flows, stability of viscoelastic flows, numberical computation of bubbles, and solidification are included.
Women and Health is a comprehensive reference that addresses health issues affecting women of all ages — from adolescence through maturity. It goes far beyond other books on this topic, which concentrate only on reproductive health, and has a truly international perspective. It covers key issues ranging from osteoporosis to breast cancer and other cancers, domestic violence, sexually transmitted diseases, occupational hazards, eating disorders, heart disease and other chronic illnesses, substance abuse, and societal and behavioral influences on health. In this second edition of Women and Health, chapters thoughtfully explore the current state of women's health and health care, including th...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Symposium on Information and Automation, ISIA 2010, held in Guangzhou, China, in November 2010. The 110 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The symposium provides a forum for researchers, educators, engineers, and government officials to present and discuss their latest research results and exchange views on the future research directions in the general areas of Information and Automation.
This monograph reviews some of the work that has been done for longitudi nal data in the rapidly expanding field of nonparametric regression. The aim is to give the reader an impression of the basic mathematical tools that have been applied, and also to provide intuition about the methods and applications. Applications to the analysis of longitudinal studies are emphasized to encourage the non-specialist and applied statistician to try these methods out. To facilitate this, FORTRAN programs are provided which carry out some of the procedures described in the text. The emphasis of most research work so far has been on the theoretical aspects of nonparametric regression. It is my hope that the...
To celebrate Peter Huber's 60th birthday in 1994, our university had invited for a festive occasion in the afternoon of Thursday, June 9. The invitation to honour this outstanding personality was followed by about fifty colleagues and former students from, mainly, allover the world. Others, who could not attend, sent their congratulations by mail and e-mail (P. Bickel:" ... It's hard to imagine that Peter turned 60 ... "). After a welcome address by Adalbert Kerber (dean), the following lectures were delivered. Volker Strassen (Konstanz): Almost Sure Primes and Cryptography -an Introduction Frank Hampel (Zurich): On the Philosophical Foundations of Statistics 1 Andreas Buja (Murray Hill): Pr...
