Mit Joni Mitchell fängt es an: einer Katze, der Fitz das Leben rettet, als er mit seinem Freund Marek Urlaub auf Kreta macht. Die minimale Heldentat fühlt sich wichtig an, nachdem ihm sein Leben schon so lange Zeit nutzlos vorkommt. Sie bringt Fitz dazu, seinen Werbejob zu kündigen. Er will endlich eine seit langem geplante Fernsehserie schreiben, in der er mit den Dämonen seiner Jugend ringt. Doch als ein Sender die Serie kauft, kommt es schnell zur Ernüchterung. Die schwule Hauptfigur wird gestrichen, "weil sich das nicht vermarkten lässt." Obwohl er sich dafür hasst, macht er weiter. Von Anfang an verraten. Trotzdem, oder deswegen, wird die Serie zu einem viralen Hit. Und vielleicht ist das, was Fitz immer wollte, genau das, wodurch er alles verliert, was er hat. In seiner kompromisslos gegenwärtigen und aufmerksamen Sprache lässt Stephan Phin Spielhoff seinen Protagonisten durch die Großstadt irren. Manisch, entfremdet, töricht und nonchalant – immer darauf lauernd, dass morgen jemand die Revolution startet. Zwischen Likes und Zigaretten, im grellen Licht der medialen Aufmerksamkeit, verschwimmt so vieles, das früher einmal sicher war.
Nichts wird von alleine gut
Die Hoffnung hat ein Problem. Gerade jetzt, wo wir sie am meisten brauchen, versagt sie. Immer mehr Menschen haben das Gefühl, dass die Zukunft nicht besser werden wird als die Gegenwart. Das beweisen neuste Umfragen ganz klar: Über die Hälfte aller Jugendlichen weltweit ist inzwischen davon überzeugt, dass die Menschheit dem Untergang geweiht ist. Die Gegenwart scheint ausweglos. Inklusive Klimawandel, sozialer Ungerechtigkeit, Faschismus und Krieg. Diese Entwicklung ist unerträglich, denn für ein selbstbestimmtes und gelungenes Leben, ist Hoffnung eine unabdingbare Notwendigkeit. Aber damit wir wieder Hoffnung haben können, müssen wir zuerst verstehen, was Hoffnung überhaupt bedeutet und warum es so einfach ist, absolut falsch zu hoffen. Christiane Stenger und Stephan Phin Spielhoff machen sich deshalb auf die Suche nach der Hoffnung, nach ihrem Ursprung, ihrem Werdegang und wollen wissen, wie konnten wir darauf hoffen, dass alles gut wird, und dann wurde nichts gut?! Die Hoffnung braucht ein Revival, denn sie ist viel mehr als reines Wunschdenken - sie ist unser einziges Werkzeug, mit dem wir schon jetzt für eine bessere Zukunft sorgen können und zwar für uns alle.
