Petrus Christus
This study is an important new account of the life and work of the flemish master Petrus Christus. It is the first volume to focus specifically on the physical characteristics of his works as criteria for judging attribution, dating, and the extent to which he was indebted to Jan Van Eyck and other artists for the development of his technique and style.
Art of the 20th Century
The original edition of this ambitious reference was published in hardcover in 1998, in two oversize volumes (10x13"). This edition combines the two volumes into one; it's paperbound ("flexi-cover"--the paper has a plastic coating), smaller (8x10", and affordable for art book buyers with shallower pockets--none of whom should pass it by. The scope is encyclopedic: half the work (originally the first volume) is devoted to painting; the other half to sculpture, new media, and photography. Chapters are arranged thematically, and each page displays several examples (in color) of work under discussion. The final section, a lexicon of artists, includes a small bandw photo of each artist, as well as biographical information and details of work, writings, and exhibitions. Artbibliographies Modern
Abstracts of journal articles, books, essays, exhibition catalogs, dissertations, and exhibition reviews. The scope of ARTbibliographies Modern extends from artists and movements beginning with Impressionism in the late 19th century, up to the most recent works and trends in the late 20th century. Photography is covered from its invention in 1839 to the present. A particular emphasis is placed upon adding new and lesser-known artists and on the coverage of foreign-language literature. Die öffentliche Rehabilitierung der in der NS-Zeit verbotenen Kunst konzentrierte sich nach 1945 zunächst auf die in den Weimarer Jahren musealisierte Moderne ("Entartete Kunst"), während die spätere Kunst der Emigranten und die politische Widerstandskunst lange unbeachtet blieben. Die vorliegende Bibliographie verzeichnet und kommentiert mehr als 1000 Ausstellungen zur "Entarteten Kunst", zur Exil- und Widerstandskunst und dokumentiert die Ausstellungspräsenz der von den Nationalsozialisten verfolgten Künstler nach 1945. Ein umfangreicher künstlerbiographischer Anhang informiert über die Diskriminierung und Verfolgung von mehr als 1500 Künstlern und listet ihre Ausstellungsbeteiligungen nach 1945 auf. Auf einer breiten Datenbasis wird dem Benutzer ein schneller Zugriff auf Informationen über Ausstellungen und Künstler aus dem Bereich der "Entarteten Kunst", der Exil- und Widerstandskunst ermöglicht.
