The application of field theoretic techniques to problems in condensed matter physics has generated an array of concepts and mathematical techniques to attack a range of problems such as the theory of quantum phase transitions, the quantum Hall effect, and quantum wires. While concepts such as the renormalization group, topology, and bosonization h

Modern Quantum Field Theory Ii - Proceedings Of The International Colloquium

The proceedings reflect a broad spectrum of topics in contemporary theoretical physics: quantum aspects of black holes; recent progress in critical and noncritical string theory; spin chains quantum hall effect and generalized statistics; stochastic dynamics turbulence and reaction kinetics; foundations of quantum mechanics; new statistics in field theory; quantum field theory on Riemann surfaces and knot theory; lattice field theories. The lectures present developments in the frontiers of these subjects and provide interdisciplinary links between the areas.

Surveys in Theoretical High Energy Physics - 2

  • Type: Book
  • -
  • Published: 2016-11-13
  • -
  • Publisher: Springer

The book presents pedagogical reviews of important topics on high energy physics to the students and researchers in particle physics. The book also discusses topics on the Quark–Gluon plasma, thermal field theory, perturbative quantum chromodynamics, anomalies and cosmology. Students of particle physics need to be well-equipped with basic understanding of many concepts underlying the standard models of particle physics and cosmology. This is particularly true today when experimental results from colliders, such as large hadron collider (LHC) and relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC), as well as inferences from cosmological observations, are expected to further expand our understanding of particle physics at high energies. This volume is the second in the Surveys in Theoretical High Energy Physics Series (SThEP). Topics covered in this book are based on lectures delivered at the SERC Schools in Theoretical High Energy Physics at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, and the University of Hyderabad.

Managing Business Ethics & Compliance

This book can be an integrated learning vehicle for all working professionals who aspire to become an Ethics & Compliance officer in their respective organization. In first few chapters, it has been defined business ethics as the principles and standards that determine acceptable conduct in business organizations. The acceptability of behaviour in business is determined by corporate governance, as well as each individual's personal moral principles and values. Basic ethical and corporate social responsibility concerns have been codified as laws and regulations that encourage businesses to conform to society's standards, values, and attribution. Codes of ethics, policies on ethics, and busine...

Magnetism

Magnetic phenomena and materials are everywhere. Our understanding of magnetic behavior, once thought to be mature, has enjoyed new impetus from contributions ranging from molecular chemistry, materials chemistry and sciences to solid state physics. New phenomena are explored that open promising perspectives for commercial applications in future - carrying out chemical reactions in magnetic fields is just one of those. The spectrum spans molecule-based - organic, (bio)inorganic, and hybrid - compounds, metallic materials as well as their oxides forming thin films, nanoparticles, wires etc. Reflecting contemporary knowledge, this open series of volumes provides a much-needed comprehensive ove...

Topology and Condensed Matter Physics

  • Publisher: Springer

This book introduces aspects of topology and applications to problems in condensed matter physics. Basic topics in mathematics have been introduced in a form accessible to physicists, and the use of topology in quantum, statistical and solid state physics has been developed with an emphasis on pedagogy. The aim is to bridge the language barrier between physics and mathematics, as well as the different specializations in physics. Pitched at the level of a graduate student of physics, this book does not assume any additional knowledge of mathematics or physics. It is therefore suited for advanced postgraduate students as well. A collection of selected problems will help the reader learn the to...

Fundamentals of Quantum Computing

This introductory book on quantum computing includes an emphasis on the development of algorithms. Appropriate for both university students as well as software developers interested in programming a quantum computer, this practical approach to modern quantum computing takes the reader through the required background and up to the latest developments. Beginning with introductory chapters on the required math and quantum mechanics, Fundamentals of Quantum Computing proceeds to describe four leading qubit modalities and explains the core principles of quantum computing in detail. Providing a step-by-step derivation of math and source code, some of the well-known quantum algorithms are explained...

Monopole ’83

Ten years have passed since It Hooft and Polyakov demonstrat ed that superheavy magnetic monopoles were a natural consequence of any Grand Unified Theory (GUT) in which the unifying group contains a U(l) factor as a subgroup. An analysis of these GUTs in an expanding, cooling universe yields a phase transition at an energy ~l015 GeV and at a cosmic time ~lO-35 seconds after the big bang. The general consequences of GUTs and this phase transition are the prediction of proton decay, the production of superheavy magnetic monopoles, and an understanding of the observed excess of matter over anti-matter in the universe. Attempts to provide experimental verification of GUTs has led to valiant expe...
