Jewish Studies at the Turn of the Twentieth Century
In July of 1998 the European Association for Jewish Studies celebrated its Sixth Congress in Toledo, with almost four hundred participants. In these Proceedings 169 papers and communications read during the conference have been collected . By and large, they offer a broad, realistic perspective on the advances, achievements and anxieties of Judaic Studies at the turn of the 20th century, on the eve of the new millennium. They represent the point of view of the European scholars, enriched with notable contributions by colleagues from other continents. One volume (ISBN 978-90-04-11554-5) includes papers dealing with Jewish studies on biblical, rabbinical and medieval times, as well as with some general subjects, such as Jewish languages and bibliography. Portuguese English Bilingual Bible The Histories
This is the Histories, volume two, of the Portuguese English Bilingual Bible book series. It is in English and Portuguese, two of the top ten most widely spoken languages on Earth. It is the King James Version and Almeida Recebida translations, good and accurate translations for learning either language, as well as having a correct and reliable translation from the received texts of the Holy Bible itself. The translators relied on "formal equivalence" to preserve phrasing and literal content from the Hebrew and Greek documents. This present volume is divided in columns for each language, with each corresponding verse line matching its equal on the opposite side of the page. The font size and style is easy to read. Typo's and the rare instance of missing information (such as superscriptions above psalms and colophons ending epistles) have been translated from English to Portuguese, and in some cases Hebrew into Portuguese, by Alan Lewis Silva, who has lovingly and carefully edited this wonderful book.
The Mexican Filmography, 1916 through 2001
Mexican cinema has largely been overlooked by international film scholars because of a lack of English-language information and the fact that Spanish-language information was difficult to find and often out of date. This comprehensive filmography helps fill the need. Arranged by year of release and then by title, the filmography contains entries that include basic information (film and translated title, production company, genre, director, cast), a plot summary, and additional information about the film. Inclusion criteria: a film must be a Mexican production or co-production, feature length (one hour or more, silent films excepted), fictional (documentaries and compilation films are not included unless the topic relates to Mexican cinema; some docudramas and films with recreated or staged scenes are included), and theatrically released or intended for theatrical release.
