Microalgae are a valuable resource of carbon materials that may be used in biofuels, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and health supplements. There are, however, many challenges in the microalgae production process, such as mass cultivation, strain improvement, biomass disruption, and reprocessing of nutrients and water that have been encumbering the microalgal industry. Microalgal biotechnology has the capability to introduce remarkable breakthroughs and innovations. This volume highlights current advancements in the field of microalgal biotechnology. The key features of the book: • Presents the role of microalgae in various industries, including food, agriculture, aquaculture, biofuel, and metabolites • Shows the historical and prospective uses of microalgae elements for economic and ecological benefits • Explains the integrated technologies for massive production of microalgae-derived products • Includes industrial case studies that illustrate sustainable production of microalgae products • Discusses current developments and advances in microalgae bioprocessing
Algal secondary metabolites have several biotechnological, pharmaeceutical, industral, cosmetic, and other commercial applications. This new book highlights the recent advances in algal active metabolites, emphasizing their pharmaceutical, therapeutic, nutraceutical, and industral potential. It first provides an introduction to algal metabolites and discusses their applications. It then looks at microalgal- their pharmaeceutical, therapeutic, nutraceutical, and industrial applications. Providing a wealth of information, this book illustrates the diversity of these metabolites from indegeneous marine of freshwater sources, providing a gateway that can enable researchers and pharmaceutical companies to develop novel nontoxic, cost-effective, and highly efficient drugs.
This new volume discusses the widespread concerns of hematopoietic challenges in different and emerging ways. With chapters written by faculty and researchers from prestigious institutions working directly in hematopoiesis and advanced areas of biology, the volume offers a comprehensive overview of the regulation of blood cell development, epigenetic mechanisms, and regulatory non-coding RNAs. It presents concepts related to regulation of hematopoietic stem cell development, as well as survival, proliferation, and differentiation. It also discusses the microenvironmental niche where stem cells exist and develop into distinct blood cell types. A model system used to study non-coding RNA funct...
This book series focuses on current progress in the broad field of medical microbiology, and covers both basic and applied topics related to the study of microbes, their interactions with human and animals, and emerging issues relevant for public health. Original research and review articles present and discuss multidisciplinary findings and developments on various aspects of microbiology, infectious diseases, and their diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Advances in Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Public Health is a subseries of Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, which has been publishing significant contributions in the field for over 30 years and is indexed in Medline, Scopus, EMBASE, BIOSIS, Biological Abstracts, CSA, Biological Sciences and Living Resources (ASFA-1), and Biological Sciences. 2018 Impact Factor: 2.126.
There has been a tremendous advancement in cancer therapeutics, and this book focuses on new approaches to one of the major cancers of the female reproductive system—cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the fourth most frequent cancer in women worldwide and, especially, a foremost cause of morbidity in women in developing countries, including India. Several research findings have suggested that modulation in various signaling pathways is responsible for cervical cancer pathogenesis, and inhibition of these crucial pathways could be a better therapeutic approach for cervical cancer management. This book expounds on this approach, providing a detailed insight of the deregulated oncogenic sign...
Philosophical poetry or poetic philosophy? Sorin Cerin combines philosophy with poetry, being the author of a philosophical system called Coaxialism but also of many volumes of philosophical poetry. One of the representative poems being this with the title: "The Dreams of lead of the Death", whose lyrics are: "Wax candles, created from the emaciated bodies, of the Non-Senses of the Existence, are melted by the rays, of the Sacred Flames, of the Love, of the Divine Light, which have penetrated with difficulty, through the icy Darkness, from the Inferno of the Absurd, of the Illusions of Happiness, for to give us, the Wings of Angels of the Dreams, with which to we fly beyond us, up to the Star of Immortality, without it knowing, that we are being pursued, by the fangs, of bloody beast, of the Destiny, which crush us, with the Dreams of lead, of the Death, any Memory from the Future, toward which we want to go."
Sorin Cerin [sˈɔːɹɪn sˈɛɹɪn], [sˈɔːɹɪn sˈɛɹɪn], [sˈɔːɹɪ_n sˈɛɹɪ_n] (born Sorin Hodorogea) is a Romanian Philosopher and Logician, creator of the Philosophical Works of Coaxialism, Essayist and Author of the monumental work entitled Wisdom Collection, considered one of the most prominent thinkers of the gnomic genre in the world, also a remarkable Existentialist Poet of the 21st century and Novelist of Balkan and Greek origin (born November 25, 1963, Baia Mare, Romania). This book reflects the use of cyanobacteria for the bioremediation of wastewater through different mechanisms and pathways of transformation and transfer of hazardous substances from one medium to another. The application of microorganisms for bioremediation is determined by their ubiquity, small size, high rate of reproduction and large surface-to-volume cell ratio. Mechanisms of interaction of cyanobacteria with inorganic pollutants include biosorption, bioaccumulation with an opportunity to obtain metal nanoparticles both on the cell surface and inside the cells as well as chelation and inclusion of metals in the composition of certain organic structures. Data presented in the book provides specialists in the field with useful information for bioremediation technologies as well as for obtaining valuable preparations using cyanobacteria.
Seaweeds are known for their rich bioactive compounds, which promote health in human beings and are good for the ecosystem as well. They are also natural resources that are a major source of raw material for different industries. There are still undiscovered and unexploited compounds synthesized by seaweeds that may have potential applications in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, and cosmetics industries. This book serves as a comprehensive knowledge source for the predominant roles of seaweeds in various sectors, particularly in the areas of health, environment, and agriculture. It explores the diverse biodiversity aspects of seaweeds and their derivatives. The book critically review...
