This is a very old book written by Syed Khaja Sadat Hussain Shah Biabani with the title 'Limat Biabani' about the advices and discourses of his spiritual master Hazrat Syed Shah Ghulam Afzal Biabani and the first time I have translated this book into English. This translation of the most ancient and celebrated Urdu book on Sufi'ism will, I hope, be found useful not only by the number of students familiar with the subject at first hand, but also by many readers. This is a small book in which there are advises and instructions, especially available for Taleb (student) and it refers to a person who is committed to a Murshid (spiritual master) in a Tariqa (spiritual path) of Sufism and it is als...
A Finalist for the Man Asian Literary Prize, a moving and beautifully told story set in a the tumultuous days after the Partition of India and Pakistan, about a wrestling champion and a courtesan struggling to hold onto the world they knew amidst the eruptions of history. In a ruined city after the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Ustad Ramzi is still famed as a wrestler of unparalleled strength and technique. But now Ramzi’s power—if not his indomitable will—is on the wane, while his younger brother Tamami, unconcerned with traditions and hierarchy, hungers for immediate fame and glory at the risk of family honor. The courtesan Gohar Jan was once celebrated thr...
Fiction. Asian American Studies. Jewish Studies. Told with humor and melancholy, TO BE WITH HER is a gripping tale of quest for self-evaluation by a young man from Pakistan. Of Muslim background, the narrator deals with his attachment to his culture and people, and commitment to his first love, while he gives the reader a charming love story between him and his Jewish girlfriend in Chicago in the 60s as the Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movement change everyone.
The outsider who transformed our justice system Nazir Afzal knows a thing or two about justice. As a Chief Prosecutor, it was his job to make sure the most complex, violent and harrowing crimes made it to court, and that their perpetrators were convicted. From the Rochdale sex ring to the earliest prosecutions for honour killing and modern slavery, Nazir was at the forefront of the British legal system for decades. But his story begins in Birmingham, in the sixties, as a young boy facing racist violence and the tragic death of a young family member - and it's this that sets him on the path to his groundbreaking career, and which enables him to help communities that the conventional justice system ignores, giving a voice to the voiceless. A memoir of struggle and survival as well as crime and punishment, The Prosecutor is both a searing insight into the justice system and a powerful story of one man's pursuit of the truth.
Mudslinging and other short stories is an anthology of short stories. It is a work of fiction, based on everyday life experiences and observations. It depicts the various faces of our society very evident to everyone yet most conveniently ignored by all. It will not be incorrect to say that it is a depiction of our society with all its ills and imperfections. The protagonists or characters are common people caught in the whirlwind of circumstances some beyond and some in their control, testing them, trying them as they endeavor to change their luck or most often acquiesce to circumstances, considering it as their fate. Bound in the shackles of society with its peculiar ethos the stories try ...

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is perceived as a communal party that aims to eliminate the secular character of the Indian state in which Indian-Muslims coexist. The Hindus and Indian-Muslims are often projected as absolute identities. The present study argues that a number of identities-communitarian, caste, and regional-exist in India and compete to preserve their respective traditions. The BJP as the proponent of Hindutva and the Muslims as the advocates of Islam-Urdu are struggling to protect their respective values system and traditions. Both identities have deep historical roots that were formed during the British Raj. The author has studied the BJP-Muslim interaction in three distinct phases: the Raj era; the post-Independence Congress-dominated era; and the post-Congress-dominated BJP era. The book will be useful for academicians, politicians, and students of International Relations and Indian politics. It will be an indispensible read for those who design courses on Indian politics and South Asia.
