Handbook of Latin American Studies, Vol. 76
Beginning with Number 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research underway in specialized areas.
Normative Motherhood:
A central aim of motherhood studies is to examine and theorize normative motherhood. Where does it come from? What are its defining features and demands? How does it work as a regulatory discourse and practice across differences of age, class, race, ability, sexuality, and region? What is the impact of normative motherhood on women' s lives? What does an intersectional analysis of normative motherhood reveal? How is normative motherhood reflected and enacted in public policy, workplace practices, family arrangements and so on? How is normative motherhood represented and resisted in literature, art, photography, and film? How do or may women resist normative motherhood? This collection explores these questions of normative motherhood under three interrelated topics: Regulations, Representations, and Reclamations.
O Diário Íntimo de Altino Arantes (1916-1918)
O livro traz uma análise dos primeiros seis volumes, de um total de quinze, dos registros pessoais de Altino Arantes, que foi presidente do estado de São Paulo de 1916 a 1920. Nesses volumes, transcritos na segunda parte do livro, o leitor é apresentado a um panorama do cenário político paulista do início do século XX, entremeado a aspectos da vida íntima de Arantes, o que torna o diário uma valiosa fonte para a historiografia política paulista.

A atual obra analisa o acesso à justiça pelas populações escrava e liberta na vila de Pitangui, durante o século XVIII. Por meio de ações cíveis de diversas tipologias iniciadas e respondidas por esses sujeitos, percebi os principais motivadores dos conflitos vivenciados, como eles se auto intitulavam frente ao tribunal, bem como a forma de tratamento recebida por seus adversários, advogados e oficiais camarários. Compreendi, da mesma forma, o perfil dos escravizados e alforriados que se fizeram presentes nas petições, como cor, naturalidade e gênero. Calunga and the Legacy of an African Language in Brazil
Although millions of slaves were forcibly transported from Africa to Brazil, the languages the slaves brought with them remain little known. Most studies have focused on African contributions to Brazilian Portuguese rather than on the African languages themselves. This book is unusual in focusing on an African-descended language.
