Radiation Defect Engineering

The increasing complexity of problems in semiconductor electronics and optoelectronics has exposed the insufficient potential of the technological doping processes currently used. One of the most promising techniques, which this book explores, is radiation doping: the intentional, directional modification of the properties of semiconductors under the action of various types of radiation. The authors consider the basic principles of proton interactions with single crystal semiconductors on the basis of both theory as well as practical results. All types of proton modifications of the materials known presently are analyzed in detail and exciting new fields of research in this direction are discussed.

Principles of Extreme Mechanics (XM) in Design for Reliability (DfR)

This book addresses issues pertinent to mechanics and stress generation, especially in recent advanced cases of technology developments, spanning from micrometer interconnects in solar photovoltaics (PV), next-gen energy storage devices to multilayers of nano-scale composites enabling novel stretchable/flexible conductor technologies. In these cases, the mechanics of materials have been pushed to the extreme edges of human knowledge to enable cutting-edge, unprecedented functionalities and technological innovations. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction, in situ small-scale mechanical testing combined with physics-based computational modeling/simulation, has been widely used approaches to probe thes...

Innovations in Bio-Inspired Computing and Applications

This book highlights recent research on bio-inspired computing and its various innovative applications in information and communication technologies. It presents 38 high-quality papers from the 10th International Conference on Innovations in Bio-Inspired Computing and Applications (IBICA 2019) and 9th World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2019), which was held at GIET University, Gunupur, India, on December 16–18, 2019. As a premier conference, IBICA–WICT brings together researchers, engineers and practitioners whose work involves bio-inspired computing, computational intelligence and their applications in information security, real-world contexts, etc. Including contributions by authors from 18 countries, the book offers a valuable reference guide for all researchers, students and practitioners in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering.

Cyclodextrins in Pharmaceutics, Cosmetics, and Biomedicine

Cyclodextrins in Pharmaceutics, Cosmetics, and Biomedicine covers a wide range of knowledge on cyclodextrins, from an overview of molecular and supramolecular aspects of cyclodextrin physicochemistry, to the latest outcomes in cyclodextrin use and future possibilities in the employment of these systems. This book focuses on the derivatives and physicochemical and biological properties of cyclodextrins, and considers drug delivery through topical, mucosal, and oral via cyclodextrin complexes.

Nitrides with Nonpolar Surfaces

This is the first monograph to discuss in detail the current stage of development of nonpolar nitrides, with specific emphasis on the three main topics of crystal growth, properties and device studies. World-class researchers summarize their own recent achievements in their respective fields of expertise, covering both nonpolar and semipolar nitride materials. The bulk of the discussion in each chapter is related to the physical properties of the material obtained by the respective technique, in particular, defect density and properties of the defects in nonpolar nitrides. In addiiton, the optical and vibrational properties are also addressed in several chapters, as is progress in heterostructures, quantum wells and dots based on the AlGaN/GaN and the InGaN/GaN systems. Finally, an outlook of the application areas of the differently grown materials is presented in most chapters, together with the capabilities and limitations of the respective growth approaches used.
