100 Chemical Myths deals with popular yet largely untrue misconceptions and misunderstandings related to chemistry. It contains lucid and concise explanations cut through fallacies and urban legends that are universally relevant to a global audience. A wide range of chemical myths are explored in these areas; food, medicines, catastrophes, chemicals, and environmental problems. Connections to popular culture, literature, movies, and cultural history hold the reader’s interest whilst key concepts are beautifully annotated with illustrations to facilitate the understanding of unfamiliar material. Chemical Myths Demystified is pitched to individuals without a formal chemistry background to fledgling undergraduate chemists to seasoned researchers and beyond.

The revolutionary, science-based plan to reclaim your health “You have cancer.” These are perhaps the most feared three words that will ever come out of a doctor’s mouth, and more and more people are hearing them. Yet most patients (and some doctors) do not realize that lifestyle changes can dramatically reduce risk, assist treatment and improve chances of surviving and even thriving after a diagnosis. Over the course of a major study Servan-Schreiber designed with Dr Lorenzo Cohen at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, six key areas have emerged: love and social support, stress management, rest, movement, nutrition and avoiding environmental toxins. Each plays a role--but it's the synergie...

Pamięć, wyobraźnia, praktyki oporu

Świat to skomplikowane miejsce, a my jesteśmy w gruncie rzeczy dość prości.

Comprehensive Organic Functional Group Transformations II (COFGT-II) will provide the first point of entry to the literature for all scientists interested in chemical transformations. Presenting the vast subject of organic synthesis in terms of the introduction and interconversion of all known functional groups, COFGT-II provides a unique information source documenting all methods of efficiently performing a particular transformation. Organised by the functional group formed, COFGT-II consists of 144 specialist reviews, written by leading scientists who evaluate and summarise the methods available for each functional group transformation. The first university department of ethnology in Hungary was established in 1929 in the Franz Joseph University of Szeged. This book examines the many stages of the university's history. The first professor was the folklorist Sandor Solymossy (1864-1945). After his retirement the chair was not filled in Szeged from 1934 to 1947. In the 1940s many of the leading representatives of ethnography in Hungary in the 20th century were connected with the school: Gyula Ortutay, Istvan Talasi, Bela Gunda and others. In 1947 Sandor Balint (1904-1980) was appointed to the reorganized chair of ethnography. The totalitarian dictatorship of socialism barely tolerated ethnography which it regarded as a national science, and in 1965 Sandor Balint was condemned in a show trial and forced to retire. Development of the department and the teaching of ethnography did not begin until the time of the change of political system (1989-1990). Full-time training in ethnography, folkloristics and cultural anthropology has been given since 1992/1993.
