Filled with hard-won personal observations and practical, tested exercises for following The Way, Every Day Tao lives somewhere between the Tao of this and that, so popular lately (good advice, maybe, but is it Taoism?) and the more traditional teachings of writers steeped in academic study and Eastern culture. Leonard Willoughby comes to the Tao as a Western seeker, looking for both a spiritual practice and a method of living. In this book, he frankly recounts his own struggles--with life and with the Tao. He offers a plenitude of suggestions both for understanding and following the Way and for becoming a fully-integrated personality. After his initiation into the Jade Purity School of Tao,...

Living in the Tao

Taoist techniques that can quiet your mind so you can discover your true self in the wisdom of the heart • Teaches that the Tao is the flow of nature, the effortless middle path of self-discovery • Shows how to quiet the monkey mind (the ego) and listen within for your inner voice • Fosters a connection to the Tao through diet, exercise, livelihood, and sexuality Taoists say that we must learn to observe with the mind and think with the heart. In the West we get caught up in the “monkey mind” of our ego. We think we can control our individual destinies by swimming upstream against the current, but we are mistaken. When we learn to quiet the monkey mind with meditation practices, we...

This translation is based on the core principle of Tao philosophy. In the Introduction, we discuss the core principle based on the Tao Te Ching. In the translation, we show that the words of Lao-tzu are self-consistent and his words follow a definite logic. We can now interpret his words without much need for speculation. Lao-tzu provides a logical way to show the relationship between appearances and reality. We can see how his words point to the true reality of Tao, and eliminate the self-contradiction in the Tao Te Ching. The logic of Tao philosophy is consistently reflected in this translation of the Tao Te Ching. We also show Tao philosophy as a general philosophy, similar to the Western and Buddhist philosophies.

In Harmony with the Tao

The Tao Te Ching is one of the most widely read and deeply loved works of ancient spiritual wisdom in the world. But its dense and cryptic lines can sometimes yield more confusion than illumination. If you’ve ever found yourself understanding the printed words but thinking, “Yes, but what does this mean and how is it relevant to me?” then Francis Pring-Mill’s In Harmony with the Tao: A Guided Journey into the Tao Te Ching is your guide into deeper understanding of this classic work of Chinese philosophy. Today’s fast-paced world leaves us little time to spend with the timeless questions, such as how to live a meaningful life in harmony with the world around us. Nonetheless we yearn...

Teachings of the Tao

"The Tao that can be spoken of is not the real Way," reads a famous line from the Tao-te-ching. But although the Tao cannot be described by words, words can allow us to catch a fleeting glimpse of that mysterious energy of the universe which is the source of life. The readings in this book are a beginner's entrée into the vast treasury of writings from the sacred Chinese tradition, consisting of original translations of excerpts from the Taoist canon. Brief introductions and notes on the translation accompany the selections from the classics; books of devotional and mystical Taoism; texts of internal alchemy; stories of Taoist immortals, magicians, and sorcerers; ethical tracts; chants and rituals; and teachings on meditation and methods of longevity.
