Textbook that uniquely integrates physics and chemistry in the study of atmospheric thermodynamics for advanced single-semester courses.
This textbook presents a uniquely integrated approach in linking both physics and chemistry to the study of atmospheric thermodynamics. The book explains the classical laws of thermodynamics, focuses on various fluid systems, and, recognising the increasing importance of chemistry in the meteorological and climate sciences, devotes a chapter to chemical thermodynamics which includes an overview of photochemistry. Although students are expected to have some background knowledge of calculus, general chemistry and classical physics, the book provides set-aside refresher boxes as useful reminders. It contains over 100 diagrams and graphs to supplement the discussions, and a similar number of worked examples and exercises, with solutions included at the end of the book. It is ideal for a single-semester advanced course on atmospheric thermodynamics, and will prepare students for higher-level synoptic and dynamics courses.
This book provides a fundamental understanding of clouds, from microphysics to climate, with supplementary problem sets and questions.
Roes has directed a residential substance abuse treatment facility in upstate New York for 12 years, where he has tested and refined the techniques he describes here. Because research suggests that techniques are more likely to work if both the counselor and the patient have confidence in them, he offers a wide range of options for counselors to become familiar with when dealing with recalcitrant cases. "To many mainstream-media saturated Americans, the terms 'progressive' and 'religious' may not seem to go hand-in-hand. As religion is usually tied to conservatism, an important way in which religion and politics intersect is being overlooked. [This book] focuses on this significant intersection, revealing that progressive religious activists are a driving force in American public life, involved in almost every political issue or area of public concern. This volume brings together [contributors] who dissect and analyze the inner worlds and public strategies of progressive religious activists from the local to the transnational level. It provides insight into documented trends, reviews overlooked case studies, and assesses the varied ways in which progressive religion forces us to deconstruct common political binaries such as right/left and progress/tradition...[This] book engages and rethinks long accepted theories of religion, of social movements, and of the role of faith in democratic politics and civic life."--

This three-volume A-to-Z compendium consists of over 300 entries written by a team of leading international scholars and researchers working in the field. Authoritative and up-to-date, the encyclopedia covers the processes that produce our weather, important scientific concepts, the history of ideas underlying the atmospheric sciences, biographical accounts of those who have made significant contributions to climatology and meteorology and particular weather events, from extreme tropical cyclones and tornadoes to local winds.
MOP 147 illustrates some of the objective processes that are used to manage community and asset resilience, and provides infrastructure stakeholders with a comprehensive set of practices.
